A week in Vienna

We've found a good deal for a week in Vienna. Is this too long?
We're going to hire a car for possibly 3 days to explore the area. Is there enough to see to warrant staying there for a week?
Thanks in advance

I think it depends a little on how much you like art. We had 5 full days in Vienna, and did not run out of things to see, but we love museums, and Klimt and secession art. We didn't even leave the city...the farthest we got was Schonbrunn Palace (which is awesome, and you can easily spend a whole day there if you want to see everything....the palace, the gardens, the carriage museum, maybe even the zoo)

I spent a 5 days in Vienna and could have stayed longer easily, especially if I had been there in weather favorable to taking day trips to the countryside (or Bratislava) or visiting the Prater. However, I spent most of my time in museums and other cultural venues, so if that is not high on your list when you travel, maybe your "deal" is not such a good deal.

A week is fine. The first and last days will involve travel from/to the airport, hotel etc.

You can see a lot in a week, particularly as you want to travel outside of Vienna. You can rent a car, or take a train to many destinations. For example you can take the metro to Schonnbrun Palace.

If you want to visit Salzburg, the train takes about 2 hours and you can see most sights in the historic district in a day and return to Vienna in the evening. There are frequent trains.

If you rent a car be sure to check out parking restrictions in Vienna.

Vienna has plenty to occupy you for a week. I've made about 10 trips to Vienna and only one was shorter than 5 days -- most were a week to 10 days. I was there with my husband in March for an 8-day trip and we had a great time.

You don't need a car -- there are plenty of places to visit with local transport or by train. Salzburg is an easy day trip; so is Graz (I like Graz more than Salzburg, but they're both great destinations).

We have lived in Vienna for three years now, and have hardly run out of interesting places to visit in and around the city and region.

Art and architecture lovers can spend their entire stay in Vienna. For those who prefer active holidays, good weather brings hiking (vineyards) and cycling (to Bratislava along the Danube and catching the train back; or taking the train to Melk Abbey and cycling back to Krems, then catching the train to Vienna) in addition to the usual sightseeing of palaces, museums, and markets. If your time here is over the Christmas holiday season, there are the markets to enjoy.

Pleasant and relatively easy day trips can include Melk Abbey, and Bratislava (~1 hour); Graz and Brno (~2.5hrs); and for the really ambitious, Salzburg (3 hrs).

There are lots of other itineraries for those who rent a car for a day, too.

Being a lover of good food, I have found, with a little effort, enough interesting cuisine so as to avoid Schnitzel and Sacher Torte overload, too.

yes loads to see and do - adding to the list above, Baden, the Wienerwald, visits to Heurige in the outskirts, etc.

It's on my sights again - Easyjet are introducing flights from Bristol to Vienna starting in November.
