A Week In Paris.

If you had a week in Paris, what would you do? Where would you go? What would you see?

Would this be my first trip or my third or fourth? That makes a big difference. We just spent five days there on our third visit and didn't do any of the things a first timer would do. In fact, we didn't do a whole heck of a lot besides walking and eating.

Why are you going? What would you like to see?

We spent our 9th in Paris in Sept.'12.

Same questions as above. We need more info from you.

Do you really want to know what you should do? Because what other people would do isn't really relevant as their interests and circumstances will be completely different, as well as how many times they've been there.

Almost assuredly nothing even remotely like what you might want to do.

Why are you going, and what do YOU want to do?

Why did you pick Paris? What about the city interests YOU? What kind of activities do you like? You gotta give us a bit more info or our suggestions will be useless to you.

You know you may think people aren't being helpful, but I have been to Paris literally dozens and dozens of times, and spend entire summers there as a youngster , and I have never been to some sites, Picassos museum for instance, because it does not interest me at all.. so people are really trying to help you narrow down your choices. There are about 200 museums in Paris, of course you may know some of the large ones, but there are many special interests ones.. if you can list some of your interests people can make better suggestions for you.

It also helps if you tell us a bit about you, are you travelling alone, with hubby , with kids, how old are kids? Are you into shopping, dining out, drinking wine? etc.

It's not that people are unwilling to help but I think your expectation that posters should spend a lot of time to give you an itinerary for a week is unrealistic when you wouldn't spend a few minutes to give some information about yourself and your trip. Time of year, your likes, dislikes, specific advice.

And you're not even saying you're going to Paris, just asking what people would do there.

Maybe clynch17 was simply asking us what *we* would do and see, not asking what *he* should do.. Like someone would ask you what your favorite movies are. You wouldn't say, "Well, that all depends. What movies do *you* like? I can't tell you my favorite movies until you tell me what movies you like or might want to see"

Why can't you all just answer his question??

Maybe because we have all done it countless times before on other threads, and don't have time to reinvent the wheel. What about you, Dopio? What is your answer.

The OP has another thread going which states that s/he wants to go to Europe in the summer of 2014 and visit a number of cities. In that thread s/he asks for the "Best Sights in Europe" and also gives a little more help than in this thread.

I may return later when I have a bit of time and make some suggestions but for now I recommend a good guidebook and a map.

Right back to you, Doppio.

I did answer the other thread. Thanks for spotting that, mamcalice.

One of my favorite ways to plan a week in Paris or anywhere else is to read trip reports on this forum, which have given me more ideas than any other source. So reading the way other people have spent their week in Paris is very interesting and instructive, even if it isn't what I would do myself.

Links to several trip reports about Paris will be found by clicking on my name.

With a week in Paris, I would eat lots of cheese and foie gras and duck and apricot tarts. I would check out concerts and dance performances at the websites for the Opera de Paris, the Comedie Francaise (in French only), the Theatre des Champs Elysees, the Opera Comique, and other venues. I would attend lectures in French at the College de France.

I would go to a couple of museums, depending on my mood, and see what exhibits are showing at the various ones, including the Musee Pompidou, the Louvre, the Musee d'Orsay, the Orangerie. I would go to a street market, whichever was nearest where I was staying. And I would buy some jewelry from the shops I passed on the street, so when people asked me where I got that interesting necklace, I could say, "It's a little something I picked up in Paris."

>>>Maybe because we have all done it countless times before on other threads, and don't have time to reinvent the wheel.
|| With that attitude, you may as well just close the forums and just keep all of the old threads with only a search option then. Because frankly, I see threads here all the time that have been answered multiple times.

>>>What about you, Dopio? What is your answer.
|| It's my next trip, so I can't answer.

Op, I'll gladly answer your question. Regardless of why you asked (and why does some one have to tell us, either you feel like answering or simply skip the thread) I'm happy to tell you the things that float my boat.

First, since I'm a budding photographer (just picked up the hobby) I would sign up for one of those photography tours. I took one a few years ago and loved it.

Next I would definely do a few walking neighborhood tours. My first trip to Paris I spent so much time trying to do all the attractions that I really wished I planned some down time to "meander".

I will also spend much more time at Versailles (sp?) I could have gladly spent all day there.

Ironicaly the Lourve was probably my least liked attraction so I would cut that time down to a few hours.

I planned to stay centrally. After an apartment bombed out for me, I chose the Hotel Relais du Louvre. Off Adm. Coligny Blvd., east facade of the Louvre. I wanted to see much of the Louvre and did. Then the antiques store/museum across the street from the Louvre...then the museum of clothing and fashion (at that point, doing a show about Air France attendant clothing..errr...), and then I wanted to tour the Carnavelet, because I'm a history buff. Otherwise, I am a great little sit outdoors cafe sitter. AND that sitting was as planned for me as the museums. I took a long walk one day up Rue St. Honore (I know I got that one wrong) and marvelled at the Couturiers along the way.

OK, I'll make another attempt. Of course, we have answered many times, but without knowing some interests, we ARE reinventing the wheel. A small iota of having done some background would be nice for the OP. But have at it Dopio for your trip. YOu will absolutely LOVE Paris, as the majority of us do.
I share a limited amount of love for the Louvre, but love the Carnavalet and the Cluny, the Orsay, and need to go back to the Orangerie since the last time I saw it was decades ago and it has been closed for our trips. However Marmottan helped to fill the gap.
Michael Osman showed us the haute couture resale shops on ______ (can't recall where). Fun to window shop.
