A short trip to Edinburg, Scotland

Hi
We're planning to have a short trip from London to Edinburg for two nights. Please suggest us what type transport we should take from London, from which part, by bus or train. Also, any suggestions for hotel over there.

Definitely by train, Kings Cross to Waverley Station. Trip takes about 41/2 hours. As to accommodation, when are you going and what is your budget?

It is a nice train ride. Maybe you can time it so you can spend a few hours in York. It is a lovely little town.

14 Hart is a wonderful B&B run by knowledgeable and helpful hosts. The name is also the address. It is about a 10 minute walk to Princess St. and another 10 minutes to the Royal mile. We very much enjoyed our stay there and if you care to click on my name you will find a UK trip report that includes Edinburgh and a detailed description of the B&B.

I can recommend places for less than 100£ and for places more than 300£ but it makes no sense to do so unless we have your budget.

It's a long way from London to Texas... Assuming you are referring to the Scottish capital, it's Edinburgh, pronounced "Edin-BUR-ah".

If you should do a day trip to Glasgow, be aware, not that you asked, that it is pronounced to rhyme with "go", not with "cow." The natives call it "Glesgie".

I wouldn't call York a "little town." It is home to one of the world's great cathedrals.

Budget friendly and center of the city. I want to know if that dang tram is finished? It is about two years behind schedule.

" The natives call it "Glesgie".

No, they don't. It might occasionally be referred to as "Glesca" by some older inhabitants but never the above nor "Glasgae" which some unenlightened English people use. What you may hear in Edinburgh is "Weegieland" but what do you expect from people who don't put vinegar on their chips!

You're right. But it feels like a little town to me. Quaint and all, and since they are training right on by I thought maybe they would like to stop for a few hours, if even to just see the cathedral, walk the wall a bit.

If you do break the journey in York (a fine idea) then you need to book two tix . . . London > York and York > Edinburgh.
