Hi!
I am seriously thinking about staying at the Grand Real during our Portugal stay. thanks again for the reference! Do they accommodate children? I have a 10 & 5 year old (excellent travelers!). Also, I notices a lot of comments about the pool but not the beach? I assumed the property was oceanfront & the beaches were right there & available. If I am mistaken, please let me know as we love the ocean.
Thank you. If there is anything else you think would be good to know, please let me know.

Hello Marym - yes there is a lovely pool but while the property is oceanfront (well across the street) there is not a beach there. In fact the coastline there is very rocky - about a 5 minute walk away is "boca de inferno" where the waves crash in. There is a bike / walking / jogging path all along the coastline there. Back towards Cascais is the beach, one rather large one near the marina where you can watch kayaking and sailing lessons, it is quite sandy. I don't remember if there were cabanas, umbrellas and such there. There is also a smaller cove closer to the train station. I think there were also some beaches a bit further along the coast, reachable by bus, car or taxi probably the typical European beach club type set up with rentable lounges and a seaside restaurant. The front desk people at the hotel would be glad to give your further info.
There were several families there when we stayed - our room was a standard with two double beds and a great bathroom - large tub, separate shower, large double sink area. I don't know if there were some connecting rooms or suites but if you email the hotel I am sure they will be responsive.
A small entertaining detail - there is a trio of ducks that pretty much own the place - they waddle around the terrace at breakfast time and take a dip in the pool from time to time. Some guests were not amused - I found it fun.
thank you sooo much! the ducks sound like fun
)) ok, i thought something was "up" re: the beaches b/c no one made any comments about them. are there other hotels/properties where you can use the beach? i fell in love w/the hotel so i'm hoping to stay there regardless.

when did you go? i am concerned about crazy crowds at the hotel but its in july...what do i expect?!!!
thank you again - your input has been most helpful
