Two thoughts come to mind: the Accademia in Florence
(Ristorante Accademia P.zza San Marco, 7/r, 50121 Florence, Italy) and Ristorante Il Pozzo, p.zza Roma, 2, 53035 Monteriggioni.

Accademia is centrally located in Florence, on Piazza San Marco; Il Pozzo is in the Tuscan country side. Both are well reviewed; we have been to Il Pozzo a couple of times; we have also eaten at Accademia about four or five times and have never been disappointed. Two years ago, some friends of ours were in Florence at the time of their wedding anniversary and wanted a recommendation for a nice place. We recommended Accademia and they were will pleased.

The restaurant at Villa Della Massa just outside Florence is very nice. A table on the terrace next to the river Arno is a nice dining experience.

We had one of our best meals in Sienna, don't remember name, but I can advise you how to find it if interested, otherwise in Florence- Aqua El dua (sp) great, lively, lots of university students- food was great. not the place to go if you want a quiet dinner.

If you are going in nice weather months, you could have a seafood lunch at La Pineta in Bibbona.

Or if you prefer traditional Tuscan fare, you could try La Cantina in Riparbella.

Both these places are about an hour's drive from Lajatico, and both need reservations in advance.

Closer to Lajatico is Da Badò in Volterra. (Again, reservations needed).

Some of these places might only take cash, so be prepared for that.

The best meal I have had in Tuscany was at Buca di San Antonio in Lucca---not that far from Lajatico.

Osteria Pastella in Florence. We had a wonderful meal there with freshly made pasta and a wonderful caprese salad. Family at the table next to us enjoyed The Florentine steak. Good service too. It's located not far from the Santa Maria Novella church and square.

bobthenavigator knows of what he speaks. We were in Lucca about 10 years ago and had a wonderful meal at Buca di San Antonio. It is on a pleasant square (as I recall) and offered a delicious meal.
