Pappa,

I see from your other posts that you are planning on going in September/October, and that you're close to booking hotels. Where in Italy are you already certain you will visit?

What do you like to do? Are you interested in art, architecture, history, the Catholic church, food, hanging out, drinking wine, biking...?

My must-sees? Oh, off the top of my head:
Rome
Venice
Florence
At least one Tuscan or Umbrian hilltown!(I love Assisi but others don't care for it at all. Really like Gubbio and Siena. San Gimignano's nice, but I prefer the others.)

And of course there are plenty of places in Italy I haven't been that I would love to see. There are a few places I've been that I wouldn't consider must-sees.

But hey, what would you like to do?

I see that you are "somewhat" new here... (a few previous posts) - - how did I know that? click on your own name (this is one of the numerous useful tips that Fodors fails to tell you when they send you that first e-mail confirming your registration) - - we'll assume that you have also not taken the time to read the "HELP" (little tiny red letters in the upper lefthand corner) - - another oversight that Fodors fails to recommend to you to do.

Anyhow, you owe it to yourself to take a look there: http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm - - especially http://www.fodors.com/forums/faqs.cfm#Q6 - - which I have listed below, in excerpt form, for you (my own emphasis added):

=========================

Finally, create a title - make sure it is concise and clearly describes your message (<b>and destination</b>, if applicable) -- and write your message in the space provided

==========================

Thus, when you re-post, be sure and mention <b>Italy</b> in your message header - - even if there are earlier posts you've made that tell that...

Best wishes,

Rex

Dear Pap,

Are you totally blind or badly impaired? Can you see enough to appreciate scenery, or would you prefer to stay in cities?

In 3 weeks you cannot reasonably do &quot;nort to south east to west and ...even ... other countries&quot;.

May I suggest:

Fly into Rome for 5 days
train to Florence for 5 days
Visit Siena by bus
Train to Venice for 4 days
Fly to Naples on Alpieagles
Take airport bus to Sorrento
Spend 7 days
Visit Naples, Pompeii, the other towns on the AC
Fly home from Naples?
