a few hours in Stockholm

I am taking a cruise out of Stockholm. I will arriving around 8:00 in the morning and the ship leaves at 5:00 in the evening. Do I have enough time to go into Stockholm to see the city before the boat sails? What should I do for those few hours??

Take the boat cruise around Stockholm (a couple of hours) and go see the Vasa museum. Or spend go to the Skansen outdoor museum (they also have food there) and then to the Vasa museum.

Or spend your time going to the Skansen etc. is what I meant to write.

The train station is right in the center of the city and you have time to see Stockholm before you will have to board your ship. You can deposit your luggage at the train station and then walk up to the tourist information office. I second the previous poster's suggestion that you should see the Vasa ship and do a bus or boat sightseeing trip of the city. That way you will both have seen one of the most unique things Stockholm have to offer and become acquainted with the city.

I am unsure if there is a bus from the railway station to the cruise ship harbor. It is anyway just a short taxi ride from the station to the cruise terminal, or you can go by underground train to Slussen and then walk or take a taxi from there.

If you love museums then maybe i'd one early morning for 2 hours. By 1030 I'd plan to walk around Gamla Stan. This is the old town and is really beautiful medieval streets. perfect spot to poke your hear into some of its wonderful little shops and bakeries, sitting in the square and having a drink with the locals. For lunch it would be here or I'd walk to Östermalms Saluhall the indoor food market for late lunch which is a nice walking route through the city from the old town to the area of the food market.

Another vote here for the Vasa! I wouldn't take the time going by public transportation - take a taxi. Last September, my cab fare to the port of Vartahamnen from the Stockholm Central Station was 180 SEK.

This is so helpful! Our port has been moved to Vartahamnan and we were worried about getting back and forth there. I wonder if anyone has up to date info on taxi costs from there to center city and whether taxis are readily available on the dock. Thanks for your help. I may post this separately as I note it is not a current post.
