I will be spending a day in Sligo, Ireland and was wondering if anyone has an idea of what I can do there in one day? Some ideas: Carrowmore Megalithic cemetary, Sligo Cathedral, Sligo Abbey, Drumcliff (to see Yeats' grave), Gleniff horse shoe, Lough Gil drive...? Any thoughts are welcome. Thank you.
A Day in Sligo.

All of the above are good.....I loved the Horseshoe. Park at the mill and wander afoot up into the trees by the river.
Glencar waterfall is worth a visit, too.
Yes, Glencar was actually on our list of interests as well. Everything seems so close by the maps. Do you think it possible to do it all? Most? It really sucks not living in such a beautiful place, we need to squeeze in all we can.
The grands and I drove to Sligo from north of Donegal Town and spent about an hour on the Horseshoe (part of that was getting lost and backtracking, I must confess) and went out to Glencar where we spent maybe 45 minutes, still had time to have lunch and motor on to Claremorris by mid afternoon. As I remember, Carrowmore or Creevykeel won't take a lot of time; haven't actually gone to Sligo Cathedral or the Abbey. Lough Gil must have been an earlier trip as I don't find that in the latest trip report.
If you have a full day to spend and don't have to use a lot of it coming and going, why not make up a list of What I Would See If I Could Only See One Thing Near Sligo, then If I
Could See Two Things What Would I Add....you get the picture. Yes, it is all really close around but perhaps you will add a few minutes here and there for getting lost or driving past your turn and having to backtrack. Not that we ever did that....
However much of it you see, you will be thrilled and if at all possible go back some day to pick up the rest. Enjoy! And leave a trip report!
