A Currently Sloppy Itinerary

Jump to last reply

Let me start off by saying how helpful these reviews have all been! It has enabled me to cross things off our list and add things we didn't even know about.. so thank you all!

My husband and I are going to Ireland in early May. We will be flying into Shannon and leaving from Dublin (as I've read recommended by most of you). We plan to do 7 nights around Southern Ireland. So far things are a bit sloppy, so I was hoping you guys could help with suggestions. I understand drive times are a lot longer than google maps would predict so I'm hoping we can plan this wisely. There are so many things recommended to see, I wish we had time to see all of them!!

Day 1: Arrive in Shannon around 8am, pick up rental car. I assume we would not be able to check into our B&B so we would immediately start exploring as we have the whole day. We may head up straight to Galway and see Connemara (assuming that is doable in one day?). We would then check out Galway city, have dinner and spend the night. I've also been told the Aran Islands are beautiful. Could this be fit into this day as well?

Day 2: Head to the Cliffs of Moher with all the other tourists :) Head through the Burren and end our day in Ennis staying the night.

Day 3, 4, and maybe day 5: This is where it starts to get sloppy... bear with me! There is so much we want to see in Kerry and can only spend 2 nights, maybe 3. I understand the drive from Ennis to Dingle area will take at least 3 hours so by the time we get there it will already be at least noon. We absolutely want to see the Dingle Peninsula and I heard this is a better option than the Ring of Kerry. Is it possible to still see part of the ROK staying in Kenmare? It's hard by just looking at a map, I'm hoping you guys can direct me better. I would ABSOLUTELY love to see Skellig Michael. My only concern is that it is somewhat out of the way. Gap of Dunloe? Killarney National Park? This is REALLY where I need help with the itinerary. Any suggestions for 2-3 nights fitting in the most here?

Day 6: Looks like it's going to be a LONG drive to Kilkenny. See Cahir, Rock of Cashel. Any good B&Bs to stay??

Day 7, 8: Dublin, easy enough!

Thank you! I warned you it was a bit sloppy :)
