Below is the link to my web page about our cruise on the Rhine. Our cruise was marred by the low water level in the Rhine in the beginning of October. I'd be curious to know if anybody has been on a Rhine cruise since then and whether the water level has improved.

Not enough water or too much makes boat travel not always a sure thing on The Rhine - water too high makes some bridges too low or docking at some ports iffy - ditto for too much.
Nice report, sssteve! Thanks for posting.
Not happy to read this report (nothing personal, you understand!), just that Viking sends some cruise literature to us at least once a month, and we had actually been looking at this same cruise. Too bad. Was it any better earlier in the season? Maybe spring might be better than fall?
The river level was very low due to the very dry summer in Switzerland, where the source of the river is. I believe that the situation has improved since we were there.
I suggest you check my previous post on the subject, which I posted right after the cruise. Someone from Viking responded and gave an email address and you can contact him (or her) directly.

The Viking boats are among the biggest on the river, which means that they are among the first to be affected. I believe there are other cruise companies with smaller boats. You might want to check them out.
DH and I took a Avalon rivercruise from Budapest to Amsterdam the beginning of July and it was perfect. We are scheduled for another river cruise with Avalon next April from Paris to Nice.We realize we might be impacted by high water in April but the 2 for 1 price was just to good to pass up.Avalon does a fantastic job and we love this way of travel. You might want to check out the cruisecritic message boards for more information and reviews on rivercruises.
