A Bouquet For Your Help
A friend and I recently returned from 18 days in Paris, Venice and the Tuscan countryside. Several posters were very helpful over the past year in planning our itinerary including Elaine, Bobthenavigator, Ira, Leslie, Porter... and many others. Thank you for your generosity.
I won't bore you with the newbie "wows" that many of you have experienced, but will say:
1. We found Parisiennes to be friendly and helpful. Twice we were approached on the street and asked whether we needed help. A gracious people.
2. No dog poop - not a spot!
3. We used our Canadian highschool French throughout our five days and again, many Parisiennes were most generous in responding to us in French.
4. My second time in Venice reinforced for me that this is a city I could return to again and again.
5. Picking up and dropping off our car in Florence was not problematic at all. Yes, we got lost but by the time we had stopped laughing, we had navigated our way out of the city.
6. Driving in Italy was wonderful - great roads, fast but good drivers, numerous pull-outs (thank God). I especially like the signage saying where you weren't (i.e. "Siena" with a diagonal line slashed through it). Yeah, the roads aren't terribly well identified and the posted speed may change four times in 100 metres, but that simply added to the fun.
7. All the air carriers were great: Air Canada, BMI, Volare and Meridiana (a small problem with weight allowance but we hadn't read our ticket well, so...).
Besides those "wow" moments, the weather was good, food and drink wonderful, the French and Italian men and women stylish and gorgeous... I'm starting to plan for next year.
Thanks again for your help,
Linda
