A beautiful bike ride to Compiègne with lots of photos.
Here's the latest installment in my series of biking trip reports. Today's journey will take us through the countryside of the Picardy region north of Paris. You'll see lots of country villages, ancient churches, scenic pastoral views, some Roman ruins, a few châteaux and the lovely city of Compiègne. Of course, you'll have to suffer through my lame attempts at humor too but you can just skip the text and look at the photos if you find yourself getting sleepy.

joannyc - Every day in France is a wonderful day! Thanks for reading.
kerouac - You figured out that I have built a device which controls the sun. Now if I can just get it to work in the wintertime.
avalon - I was aware of the armistice signing(s) in Compiègne but didn't know about the museum in the forest. But I only saw the place from my bike seat so when I go back on foot I'll check that one out. I also want to see the Figurine museum (I hope nobody laughs at me about that).

I thought I commented on this yesterday in a witty, charming way. Now I probably can't be witty and charming all over again. I'll just have to repeat what I always say about your reports: I loved reading about your day and seeing the photos.
When you're on the road, please keep an eye out for a village in need of English speakers.
The French countryside is fantastic. We spent today driving in the Mayenne making the round of flowery villages. Sigh.

valtor - You are most welcome. Aside from wandering around in the city there are some interesting museums in Compiègne so make sure to check the tourist office website to see what they have to offer.
Coquelicot - Sorry you lost your response but I already know you are witty and charming. I hope you are having a wonderful time on your trip and find some villages that I may enjoy visiting on my next trip out that way. We drove through the city of Mayenne on our way to Fougéres and it seemed pleasant enough. The countryside around there looked quite nice too.
I'll be in Bayeux this Thursday with friends and then heading to Mont Saint Michel to spend the night. If you happen to be in the area perhaps we could meet up for a drink. But you may already be in Rochefort en Terre overdosing on flowers and the general pervasiveness of charm. Can't wait to read your trip report, assuming you'll give us the pleasure of posting one.

I guess our paths won't cross on Thursday since we'll be at the place of pilgrimage, St Rochefort des Fleurs. (That's the plan, which may change.) Oh well, I'm sure we will meet someday.
We walked along a line of Druid megaliths in the forest near Landean today. Because we've read your reports, we're more attuned to megaliths now. When we finally meet, you can explain it all to us over a glass or two, or as many as it takes.

coquelicot - Yes, I will be looking forward to the day when I get to meet you and DH in person. You just mentioned the names of two other villages I have never heard of and I am really hoping you will write a trip report on your return so I can get the names of all the places you went that I've never heard of. I'll be happy to explain all about megalithic culture when we meet but you may regret you got me started talking about that. Mrs. Mystique rolls hers eyes and yawns whenever I bring up that topic. We may need several bottles, not just glasses.
cafegoddess - Thank you for reading. I clicked on the link to double check it is working and had no problems. I don't know what trouble you may be encountering but here is the link again if that might help.
