Since I bashed cheaptickets, I'd like to say something about our hotel experience. The Grand Hotel Jeanne D'arc charged us for the first night (9/14). I faxed them and explained we couldn't call because our phones were down due to 9/11. I got an immediate response (hours) via fax saying they'd refund the money. When I got my next Visa statement the refund still hadn't appeared, so I faxed them another letter asking for the status. The hotel called me and reassured me that she'd processed it the minute she'd gotten my first fax. She was extremely pleasant and I very much appreciated her call. I had very mixed feelings about the hotel when they'd originally charged us that fee, how they handled the refund completely turned my mind around.
9/11 refund--Grand Hotel Jeanne D'arc, Paris, very nice staff

It's always good to hear when places are responsive to such problems. Just to clarify, when were you able to call them to actually cancel? Was it the day of arrival, before, or after?
Nice to see the hotel followed up. Shows that they are class operation. We enjoyed our stays at this hotel and have always had a very high opinion of it. Glad to see that they are still of the highest morals.
My father was in Paris at the time and he was able to call us the day before we were supposed to arrive and then he called them for us the day of arrival. It was a bit weird that they ended up charging us for that night, but all's well that ends well, I suppose.
My husband and I stayed at the Jeanne D'arc Hotel in May for 5 days. The hotel was nice, small room but clean and the price was great! The staff was very friendly and helpful and the dog was so sweet! I would recommend them to anyone looking for a low cost hotel in a great area, the Marais. The location was only a few minutes walk from the Place des Vosges. Behind the hotel there was a wonderful courtyard surrounded by restaurants. Not a touristy area.
Just wanted to add a comment about this hotel. I inquired for a room in Dec and while they were fully booked, they took the time to fax to me a list of other hotels in the area that I might try. I thought that this was beyond the call of duty! Impressive.
