8 to 9 days in switzerland with swiss pass

How can we utilise our 8 day swiss pass. We paln to travel during the last week of May. Would any other swiss pass be more economical? We are okay with extending our trip by a day or so. We are a couple travelling along with 18 and 15 year old children. I read that a 15 year old child travels free with an adult with a family card. We(couple) have visited interlaken, Jungfrau, Gimmelwald, Lucerne, Trummelbach falls and some ? Gorge a few years back. But this is going to be the first special visit for our children. Which places should we plan out if we fly in from Zurich. One of the things we would definitely like to do is Zermatt( may be 2 nights at that place as recommended by somebody). Some of the places names that i read on this forum are Montreux,Lauterbrunnen/Wengen/ Murren. Last time we travelled and stayed in Gimmelwald,we were stuck inside our cottage with Fondue cheese for one evening because of the snow and there was nothing much to see in that place. We haven't booked our flight yet. Thank You...

Wengen is a favorite here on fodors -car-less and stupendous views - like Gimmelwald but with a pulse at night.

Would any other swiss pass be more economical?>

If traveling around between more than a few places that pass would be a great deal- covers all regular trains -in full to Wengen - and lake boats (sweet floats on Lake Geneva and the two lakes bookending Interlaken and the pass is so easy - just hop on virtually any train, bus, city transports, lake boats anytime.

For lots on Swiss trains and passes and other options like Half-Fare Card check www.swisstravelsystem.com; www.budgeteuropetravel.com and www.ricksteves.com.

Be sure to do the famous easy Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg ridge walk!

In and out of Zurich makes sense but if going to Montreux area maybe Geneva too.

I really like Vevey and Montreux. They are side by side right on Lac Leman. Incredibly gorgeous with lots of fun things to see and do.

Chateau de Chillon (castle)
Rochers de Naye (tram up the mountain)
Farmers Street Markets (Tu/Sat Vevey & Fri Montreux)
the quai (lakeside promondade)

We did two weeks last June using the 15 day Swiss Pass and loved it. Click on my name and you can find my trip report, which is very detailed. Get the SBB app and either sign up for your cell phone carrier's international plan or buy a pre-paid SIM when you get there, then use the app to hop on/hop off as your heart desires.

Given where you have already been, I think Zermatt for the mountains, and Montreux/Vevey would be great choices for bases for a trip of this length. Geneva might more sense if you opted for those two destinations.

Spend more time in Zermatt. We just came back and loved it. And it takes time to get there.

well with a parent only -not grand folks or anyone else I believe. For others info not yours as you are parents. they travel free yes on everything -even expensive trains like to Jungfraujoch -get it free when you buy your Swiss Passes.

We also used our train pass for ferry boat trips on lakes around Switzerland.
