8 days Paris to Bordeaux

8 days Paris to Bordeaux
Hi,
I have been to many parts of France (Paris, French Alps, Chamonix, Megeve, Annecy, Provance, Avingon, Arles, Nimes, Nice, Cannes etc).
This year me and my wife with 12 and 9 years old children plan to stay 6 days in Paris (Children never seen Paris and they want it) after that, at 1 st of August we will leave Paris with a rental and our flight back to home is at 9th of August from Bordeaux. I need help with my road trip. We want to see Mont St Michel and stay somewhere near that area for that night. And for the final two night we plan to stay at Bordeaux. For the other 5 nights can you advice nice towns (like Megeve, Annecy, Aix-en-Provance) between Paris and Bordeaux (costal or vineyards) to see and to stay. We like good food and wine but not Michelin 3star types, we always choose our restaurants from trip advisor forums and believe in taste of fellow tripadvisors not the gourmet journalist. Also do you think one night at San Sebastian Spain will be two far away.

I think you are saying that you don't want to go to Megeve, Annecy, Aix-en-Provance (which are miles away) but you are looking for towns like them between M St M/Paris/Bordeaux
Look at La Rochelle and Ile de Re, Rochefort, La Fleche, Le Mans, Azay-le-Rideau, Saumur, Dinan, Bergerac for instance.
You will be travelling at a busy time you need http://www.bison-fute.gouv.fr/index,langen.html to help you avoid traffic problems as the roads can get busy esp. at weekends. You will also find many hotels are booked in prime holiday areas.

If this was my trip, I would not get anywhere near MSM in August - unless you like shoulder-to-shoulder crowds.
I would take the train from Paris to Brive la Gaillarde, rent a car, drive to Sarlat, and stay in the wonderful Dordogne for your entire 5-6 nights. Let the kids (and you) explore the many castles with knights in armor & jousting tournaments, gardens, take a canoe trip on the Dordogne River, see caves with pre-historic cave paintings & stalactites/mites & underground rivers, Birds-of-Prey show, beautiful countryside, Bastide towns, "cute little villages".
Only a 2 1/2 hr drive to Bordeaux.
My wife & I spend 2 months in France almost every year. Provence & the Dordogne are our two favorite regions.

I'm not clear why you want to go from Paris to Bordeaux if you are in Mont St Michel? Seems like a waste of time to go back to Paris for no reason when you can more easily go south from Mont St Michel.
The Dordogne area sounds like a natural and good idea, otherwise, for a place in-between Mont St Michel and Bordeaux, I'd suggest Angers, it's not far off the most direct driving route and a nice smaller city to spend some time. It's just a bit bigger than Aix. If you have that much time, though, Dordogne might be a better option, you probably don't want to spend 5 days in Angers (although you could see some of the loire and chateaux from that general area).
