8 days in Greece - Is Itinerary a Good One?

Hi All,
My husband and I are planning a trip to Greece and Italy in late August/early September – 8 days in Greece, then on to Italy to stay with relatives. We’ve never traveled to Greece, so we would like to know if this looks like a good itinerary - any suggestions welcome! Our primary interests are just enjoying the scenery, people and food, along with history. We’re in good health and would like to see a few places, but don’t won’t to spend too much time and energy hopping from place to place.

ATHENS – 2 nights (would like to stay longer, but there is a good chance we will be back another time)
-Fly from Athens to Santorini (looks like many options)
SANTORINI – 3 nights in Oia
-Ferry from Santorini to Mykonos
MYKONOS - 2 nights
-Fly direct from Mykonos to Naples, Italy (Naples airport is best option, much easier for us than Rome)

I had also tried to make Athens-Mykonos-Santorini work, but Mykonos has more options for flights into the Naples airport. The only airline we found with a flight from Santorini to Naples in our date range was Volotea, and we had never heard of it.

Does this look like a good itinerary? Any suggestions re: hotels and things to do are welcome, too!
Thanks,
Rainbow

Once you account for travel time, this amounts to one day in Athens, two days in Santorini and one in Mykonos. That doesn't seem like a lot for a week's time.

Travel time between the islands varies quite a bit. Naples to Santorini took about 8.5 hours. Santorini to Mykonos took about 3 hours.

We took a sunset cruise in Santorini and just visited a few beaches. Mykonos was more of a party island with clubs. Both places have lots of restaurants, shops, and cafes.

Here's a trip report I wrote about the Greek islands (might help you get a feel):

Enjoy your trip planning!

Thanks, everyone. I took a more detailed look at how the days would break down with respect to travel time. Does this look workable? I picked Mykonos because it seemed to fit - are there other islands we should consider instead?

DAY 1: Arrive ATHENS AT 9:20 AM, take self-guided walking tour

DAY 2: ATHENS: visit Acropolis area

DAY 3: Depart ATHENS mid-day flight to Santorini (45 minute flight, so about 3 hours travel time); Arrive OIA, SANTORINI

DAY 4: OIA, SANTORINI; relax, self-guided walks

DAY 5: OIA, SANTORINI, relax, self-guided walks

DAY 6: Depart SANTORINI on early ferry to Mykonos (3 hour boat ride, so about 4 ½ hours travel time); self-guided walking tour of MYKONOS

DAY 7: MYKONOS, possible boat trip to Delos (3-4 hours total)

DAY 8: Depart MYKONOS for NAPLES at 9:35 am, arrive NAPLES at 10:25 am (2 hour flight – 1 hour time zone difference)

Thanks,
Rainbow
