Flying into Paris late April, flying out of Paris 9 days later. My husband and I are planning 3-4 days in Paris and would like to then visit French countryside. We would like to try Bordeaux (we would fly) or drive to Loire Valley. We are looking for lovely scenery, good food and culture. We are healthy, late 50's. Please advise!

Neither Bordeaux nor the Loire Valley has anything like the spectacular scenery that can be found in other corners of France. They both have good wine, and Bordeaux in particular has great food, but you might vastly prefer Burgundy or Alsace or the Dordogne or Provence. And even if you do decide to go to Bordeaux (which I don't recommend), take the TGV - it's faster and cheaper than flying.

Head to Burgundy, where the scenery is lovely and the wine and food terrific. You can take the TGV from Paris to Dijon and pick up a car, then explore the region. Get a copy of the Michelin Green Guide to Burgundy and check out the suggested itineraries and primary sightseeing spots.

Oooh. Sounds lovely. I'm reading for suggestions for early spring. I'd like to revisit the book about Julia Child in France, and travel to some of those places.

Just back from a trip that included 2+ weeks in Provence. I can't recommend it enough. The Luberon has so many lovely villages and more. Take the train to Avignon and stay somewhere east of there to make it easy to do day trips in all directions.

Burgundy is always an excellent choice in terms of cheese, countryside and wine (if you and your husband loves to drink wine). You can also consider visiting Geneva and Provence.
