Am planning a weeklong family trip to Spain this July. Upon reviewing dozens of informative posts, I have narrowed the itenerary to 4 days in Barcelona but can't decide whether to put the other 3 days in San Sebastian or Valencia. Of course I want to avoid the discomfort of heat. Can we do both if we make it a 10-day trip? Any tips on transportation between cities and apartment rentals will be much appreciated. Maribels has been invaluable.

6 Weeks Traveling Around: Italy, Austria, Budapest, Paris

If I were doing this I'd go north. I think Valencia might be warmer than I'd like.
Spain is hot in July! Barcelona is good for 3 days, but take one night and stay in Girona. It's a university town, very Spanish, relaxed and the cafe's a wonderful.I think it was maybe an hour + away from Barcelona by train or bus. I'd go north and include Bilbao. Great Basque food and you will be away from the big city. Valencia is OK, but I was there in July and it was hot!
Have you found a place to stay in when at Barcelona? We are looking at the moment as well.
It will be HUMID in Barcelona at that time which makes it feel even warmer. Air conditioning is going to be an absolute MUST IMO.
