7 days Vacation from Zurich to Vienna

Hello All, would like to seek some travel help and advice..
I'm planning a October honeymoon vacation From Singapore and we were thinking of flying in to Zurich, spend a day in Lucerne and then back to Zurich and taking a train from there to Vienna, and we'll drive back to Zurich after.
i have read in other threads within this forum that car rental charges that involves different drop locations can be rather hefty. do you have any recommendations / advice on how should we plan our travel instead?

Is it generally easy to navigate if we drive around ourselves? we are pretty adventurous and I'm trying to include a trekking trip to Innsbruck. haven't found any other sites which suggests what other nice mountain trails there may be en-route which we can explore.

The current plan is to go up to Vienna from Zurich in 1 day, spend 1 night in Vienna and then drive back to Salzburg, Innsbruck and then back Zurich.

We need to complete this within 7 days.. is this possible? should we just take the train instead, and if we do, will we still be able to experience as much as driving tends to gives us opportunities to explore a little more and not have to worry about public transport getting around from hotels to scenic sites and places of interests.

This will be my very first trip to Europe so any advice and suggestions would be much appreciated. thanks all!
