6 Week Europe Holiday - Itinerary HELP!
Hi All,
We are planning a trip for September/October 2016. We have decided to follow the below itinerary as this would be our first time to Europe and want to cover some of the more well known and popular places first. Eastern Europe will be for another day.
Would love to hear feedback from people who have done a similar route. Also are we spending too little or too much time in any of these places? Not much into museums.. will spend most of our days wondering around, eating, drinking, learning the culture.. and just Relaxing!!..
Depart Melbourne (Australia)
- Sri Lanka (7) nights
- Londron (5) nights
- Paris (5) nights
- Barcelona (7) nights
- Venice (3) nights
- Florence/Tuscany (7) nights
- Rome (4) nights
- Dubai (3) nights
Thanks
DChrist

It's purely personal. I would be happy to spend 7 days in Florence without even bothering with the countryside (although I would make trips to Arezzo and Pisa), while others would sooner shoot themelves than not spend 5 or more days in Rome or 6 nights in Venice and skip Florence entirely. Likewise, I'd take Barcelona right off the list and substitute Athens and other parts of Greece, or cut Barcelona in favor of different parts of Spain, but you might most be looking forward to your 7 nights in Barcelona.
If you are not "too much into museums", what do you want to be doing instead in Barcelona and Florence? I'm not saying there is nothing of interest except museums in Florence and Barcelona, but just curious as to how else you want to spend your time there.

Hi Sandralist,
Thanks for your response.
Funny you mentioned Barcelona and Florence in particular. These are the two places that I was wondering if more than 5 days would be too much.. Our plan is to soak in the city, wonder through the little side streets, take time to venture into little shops, cafes, markets etc. Relax by the water or in a park. Obviously we would see a few museums but not All day every day. In Florence we will most likely hire a driver to take us to the wine region for the day and also maybe visit either Sienna or Cinque Terre for the day.
In Rome we will visit the Vatican..
We are travelling with a 2 year at the time so dont want to be in and out of airports/train stations..
I am not really into Greece. Any other suggestions? Was thinking Portugal however its a bit off track.

Looks good, depending on the weather I might try to get into Tuscany a bit more but with the long times you have for each city appartments become a good deal so you can relax with the kid a bit more

Of course, any feedback you get will be purely personal. Having visited all of your European destinations, I would probably substitute Andalucia for Barcelona. I would definitely spend 7 days in Florence - after 8 times there, there is still much we have to see. You might cut it down by a day and add the day to Rome. But, again, what you finally decide should be what you most want not what we propose.

Cinque Terre is not really a great day trip from Florence. It takes hours and hours to get to it and back. Lisbon is a fun destination for the kind of wandering and poking around you say you prefer, and it is really cheap. But it all depends on whether you can get flights that fit well with your trip.
Florence doesn't sound like your kind of place. Maybe you should stay in Siena? You can visit Florence for a day from Siena, or see it for a few hours on your way to Siena from Venice. And it would be easier to see the most scenic wine country in Tuscany from a base in Siena.
But in general, unless you want to focus on a lot of Renaissance art and architecture, you might find that 3 or 4 nights is plenty for Tuscany (unless you have a car) and you might want to spend a little more time to poke around Rome's odd corners. There is a lot to enjoy in Rome that has nothing to do with museums or churches. Likewise Venice if you don't mind lots of other tourists.
But study some more guidebooks and see what grabs you.
