5 days on Santorini - what "to do"
Hi - I will be traveling with friends in late September and after a short stay on Mykonos we are heading to Santorini for 5 relaxing days. We have rented a villa and likely will rent vehicles. While we wish to relax poolside but we also want to explore the island and take in all that there is to do. That said, any ideas or advice would be greatly appreciated. We are in the 50 to 60 yrs range and all fairly active. Should we attempt a day trip to another island? Any recommendations on Santorini tours? Wineries? Anything truly unique that should be on our list? Thanks in advance

Just wander.. the best times we have had on the islands were doing just that. Turn right, turn left, go straight, whatever!!..Beaches..remote and/or busily populated..We found one down a virtual trail with summer homes cut into the volcanic tufa..(caves) and shingle beach but oh so intriging!! Wander, wander, wander!!! Gas up, take some water and a bottle of good Santorini wine, bread and cheese and a towel to sit on.. what a day that will be!!

The ancient Minoan ruins of Akrotiri are open again and should be visited. The fish tavernas at Amoudi Bay are wonderful, below Oia. You can walk down the long winding path or drive there. This was my favorite place on Santorini. You can also swim nearby.
The Santorini beaches aren't great but doable. Visiting wineries is also popular.
Santorini is located in the southern Cyclades so day trips to other islands are problematic. You can do wonderful day trips from Mykonos and a trip to Delos is a must see.

Santorini is the best island in the world. I'm getting married there this summer! You should go to the following places:
1. Amoudi Bay for a seafood lunch
2. Metaxi Mas - best restaurant located behind a little church.
3. Rent a car and just drive. there are many places and roads to explore
4. Get a frappe while watching the sunset
5. Head to Vlychada and watch the boats
6. Go on a catamaran sunset cruise

Santorini is indeed ideal for wandering. We like the cliff walks around Firostefani. For wonderful meals, can highly recommend Salt & Pepper nearby. We ate there 3 times. The food and the hosts make for very memorable experiences. Akrotiri is interesting, as is the drive up to Ancient Thira. It was extremely windy up there but interesting.
Santorini is the most beautiful island I have seen. Enjoy!

There are various boats that offer a cruise in the caldera out to the volcano, Nea Kameni, and swim in hot springs at Palea Kameni. We are DIY types and shy away from tours but this was really fun and interesting. The geography is breathtaking and you'll spend lots of time just gazing at the scenery. Lots of wandering - I agree with above - no hurries.
