5 days near Munich, Germany in late-May
Hello,
Myself and my husband (late 20's) will be flying into Munich on May 24th (early morning). We are then planning to head to Switzerland. So we have 5 full days to spend in Germany. We are big foodies, we LOVE entertainment (listening to music, watching shows or traditional dance, we love comedy etc.), we love outdoor activities, nature, fun tours, and enjoying the culture in whatever way possible. Museums are not our favorite thing to do, but we do want to make sure we see some of the most prominent and important historical/cultural monuments, etc. We are open to any suggestions and recommendations, but we also greatly appreciate not shaming our choice to only spend 5 days or to fly into Munich (it's already booked, so it's not helpful). Thank you in advance for any and all advice and recommendations! (hotels/airbnbs/restaurants, etc would also be great).

I enjoyed the daily/nightly street activity in Munich on my trip there many years ago. I took in an excellent WW2 walking tour with an English-speaking guide and enjoyed visiting the BMW plant. My visit to Dachau was cold water in the face and well worth the afternoon.

This may fit your interests. But I think this is still current. The Hoffbreuhaus puts on a cheesy but fun Bavarian evening show every night on their upper floors. It features slap dancing, alp horns, the wood chopper dance, cow bells and the chicken dance. I think it is at 7 and they can fill up with tour groups so get your hotel to call in reservations. They serve a buffet dinner but you can just do the show and buy a beer if you prefer to eat somewhere else. If you are looking for a good Bavarian meal, we like the Augustiner Brewery a few blocks toward the train station from Marienplatz.
A great day trip out of Munich is Salzburg. Get the Bavaria ticket for the train @25 euros for round trip for two after 9am. Catch the city bus from the Salzburg train station to the Altstadt (@3/4 mile). You can visit the sights and come back into Munich that night. While in Salzburg we love the Sankt Pater Stiftskeller restaurant behind the graveyard where they hid from the Nazis in the Sound of Music. Upstairs is a formal white tablecloth restaurant that features a Mozart show $$$. Downstairs in the Keller they have a different menu at much more affordable prices. The restaurant has been open since 900. Supposedly Charlemagne ate there.
The tourist info office on Mozart Square has informaton on concerts. There are lots of free ones in the churches.

I can't imagine why anyone would "shame your choice to only spend 5 days or to fly into Munich". It's YOUR choice, and YOUR right to choose.
I can imagine that someone might wonder why you are asking Fodorites for input, rather than consulting guidebooks to determine what YOU want to see and do.
BTW, only YOU can decide when to feel shame. Your call, no matter what anyone says about anything. JMO.
Good luck!

http://www.thirdreichruins.com/munich.htm Very interesting historical info. My husband always points out stuff to me. I can't do Dachau. Some can but it just puts me in a state of depression for days.
The BMW tour in English you book in advance and it is well worth it.
We love Augustiner Brewery, any of them but also check out the places to eat here: http://www.muenchen.de/int/en/shoppi...lienmarkt.html

I concur with visiting Salzburg. This has turned out to be one of our favorite spots in Europe after many visits.
Another possibility is the short drive to Garmisch. Take the cable car to the top of the Zugspitz for outstanding views, visit Neuschawnstein and Linderhof. Both great Ludwig castles.
visit Trip Advisor and see what tours are available. They will have a great selection and give you some ideas.
