HI! I am going to Switzerland for two weeks with my three teenage boys in early June. We are planning to stay in Bernese Oberland (Wengen) for five nights. I am having a hard time sorting out our must sees for our time there, and also, which things can be grouped together.

-We will spend one day going to Jungfrau.

-I was thinking one day we could go to Murren and Gimmelwald (and do the children's adventure path just for fun). Is this the same day to go to the 007 restaurant?

Other day options seem to be Mannlichen to Kleine Scheidegg Ridge Walk (is this walkable from wengen?).

-A day in Grindelwald and rent trotti bikes? (or would we just stop by here on the way down from Jungfrau?

-Schilthorn? What is a good 2 hour hike here?

-Trummelbach falls.

I just need some help in sorting out what to try to accomplish each day, and which things should be grouped together. We are interested in taking a slow pace and leaving things up for diversions and enjoyment. It is just hard for me to determine how far apart these things are, and what works well together. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Would we benefit from having any guided hikes or tours in this area?

Any perspective about this area would be greatly appreciated! I have read so much but still can't seem to get a handle on how to organize this the best.

You're right, some activities may be grouped. You could visit the Schilthorn, Gimmelwald, Murren, and do a great hike all in one day. After the Schilthorn, you could take the cable car half-way down to Birg and hike downhill the rest of the way to Murren or Gimmelwald.

When you return to Kleine Sheidegg after visiting the Jungfraujoch, you can do the downhill walk from K-S to Wengen.

Once you get off the cable car coming down from the Schilthorn, you can hike the valley to Trummelbach Falls. It's an easy flat walk.

Yup take the cable way from Murren to Schilthorn/Piz Gloria and back via Murren to Gimmelwald - then different cable down to valley floor at Stechleberg and postal bus back to Lauterbrunnen - you can stop at Trummelbach Falls near Lauterbrunnen if still open.

Yes but it is a very very steep path - most take the cable car up to The Mannlichen - I've walked back down from Kleine Scheidegg to Wengen on a wide trail that mountains bikes can go over - great easy few-hour walk.

Nothing much to do in Grindelwald itself but pleasant town.

<-Trummelbach falls.>> Yes!!! Truly unique and the kids will love it as will you. Take the elevator as far as it goes and then walk the rest of the way to the top. Then walk all of the way down. Raging waterfalls INSIDE a mountain. A highlight of our trip. I agree with Pal We based in Grindelwald for nostalgic purpose and although a pleasant place, there is not too much to do or see in town. It is a good place to buy gifts though since there are lots of shops.

What are you overall Swiss travel plans -some kind of Swiss Pass or Half-Fare Card or Swiss Transfer Ticket, etc may be of use to you.

We didn't receive any rain gear in the Tr Falls...and didn't get wet other than maybe some mist in the air. It was cool in there as I recall - we wore sweaters.

Allow time at the top of the Schilthorn to have a huge sundae (or other snack) in the rotating restaurant. My kids loved that and had to wait until we went all the way around, which was fine since a huge fog had just rolled in.

Yes, the “007 restaurant” – Piz Gloria, which is at Schilthorn – can be combined with Murren and, depending on your timing, can be combined with Trummelbach Falls, too.

Have you tried mapping some of these things with google maps? It might help your route planning, as it will show distances and at least some of your transportation options.

When I was at Trummelbach Falls in 2013, one needed to bring one’s own rain gear.

We did not receive any raingear at T falls either and we did not get drenched. A few sprinkles here and there and the ground is wet.
