5 day Switzerland and Italy

Any suggested itinaries for a 5 day trip covering these 2 countries ?
We were thinking of
Day 0 - Leave Paris by rail in the evening
Day 1 - Arrive Interlaken & sightsee
Day 2 - Sightseeing and departure for Venice
Day 3 - Arrive Venice and sightsee
Day 4 - Sightsee and depart for Rome
Day 5 - Sightsee and depart for Paris by air

Or should we forget Rome / Venice ?

By all means, forget Rome or, depending on what you really want to do most, forget Interlaken and Venice and spend the time in Rome. With what really amounts to a little over 4 days, I would choose one destination.

Have fun whatever you decide.

First, plug in your destinations into the rail travel planner at http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query2.exe/en and find out yourself how long the train travels take. That will show you how much time you have left at each destination.

In so few days - pick one place - and if it's Rome- fly from Paris - don't take the train.

You really don't have time to see anything of Rome on this schedule. Leave it out. Or leave out Switzerland, spend one day in Venice and the next morminggo to Rome for the rest of the time. It's still not enough time but it's better than the half day at most you will have in your original plan. Rome is huge and has so many sights you will miss ninety percent of them.

With that itinerary, you will definitely be seeing more of the train stations and the countryside along the train route than of any of the cities you've mentioned. Five days is at most two destinations.

Stay in Florence and continue to Venice if you want to see all thre. No point going backt o Rome that night only to train past Florence again the next day.

I'd still skip one of the locations and leave it to two at most.

Are you seeing Paris at all? If not, why use Paris as your hub?

Another possibility, though still too quick for my taste:

Day 0 - Flight Paris - Rome
Day 1 - Rome
Day 2 - Rome
Day 3 - Early train to Florence; check bags at station and spend day Florence; early evening train to Venice
Day 4 - Venice
Day 5 - Venice; late flight to Paris
