You guys had better prepare yourselves because I have a feeling I'm going to be asking a whole slew of questions over the next few months before my trip! I'm trying to space them out a bit so far, but that may change...

My best friend and I will be traveling to France, Italy and Austria this June. It's my friend's first time, only my second time in Italy and France, and probably my 19th time to Austria (I went a lot as a kid).

Anyway, After the first stop on our trip (Paris, 6 days), we will be traveling down to Nice by night train, and we plan to spend about 5 days there. 4.5 days is probably more realistic, depending on what time we arrive in the morning and how long it takes us to find/settle into our hostel and rustle up some breakfast.

We would like to make one, or maybe two day trips while we're there, so I'm wondering, 1) if two day trips would be too much or if we should try and spend all the time we can in Nice, and
2) if you had only the limited time we do in the area, where would you go on your day trip(s)?

Some info to help you out:
We are budget travelers (but not completely scraping by, think tops $120/day on average including accommodations; we're spending tops $40 CDN per night on our beds), and our main goals on this trip is to see some beautiful things, a few museums and lots of historic places, eat some yummy food and generally have a fun, relaxing time. After 6 days in Paris, and what with Nice being a rather busy, touristy city as well, any suggestions for quiet, peaceful places for our day trips would be especially welcome, but really, I'll take any suggestions at all!
