4 Nights Sevilla/Cordoba in Nov; How to split up

Towards the end of our Spain trip, we are spending 2 nights with friends in Sevilla Nov 1, 2 -- Wednesday/Thursday nights -- and have the hotel booked. We part ways and then we have 2 nights ourselves (Friday & Saturday) before we fly out at 9:40 pm Sunday from Sevilla to Barcelona via RyanAir. (Flights are booked) We’d like to go to Cordoba via the 45 min train.

I’m looking for recommendations on how best to work those last couple of days and fit in Cordoba. (We originally planned to have another free night before flying out but that’s another story; hence what feels like “compressed” additional days.)

1) Should we stay the 2 nights in Sevilla (for a total of 4 nights) and day trip to Cordoba?

2a) Should we scoot to Cordoba for one night (Fri), then back to Sevilla (Sat) for our last night (for a total of 3 nights)? There are lots of train options going; we could go earlier in the day and come back later afternoon?

2b) Should we spend a 3rd night in Sevilla (Fri), scoot to Cordoba (Sat) for one night, then get back to Sevilla for our 9:40 pm flight? Again, there are lots of train options going; we could go earlier in the day and come back later afternoon?

3) Should we go to Cordoba for 2 nights (so 2 nights/Sevilla; 2 nights/Cordoba)? We could take a later train to Cordoba and an afternoon train back?

It’s a puzzle to me and pros and cons. What might make the most sense?

Keep it simple. Stay all four nights in Seville and make a day trip to Cordoba.

I'm not really fond of day trips in Spain, but planning to stay all 4 nights in Sevilla creates flexibility when it comes to weather & mood. I would recommend however that you go later in the afternoon & think about hanging around Cordoba through the tapas hours to see what it's like rather than going in the morning and staying for which -- by which time most locals will have disappeared from the streets.

It definitely depends on what YOU want to see and do, and perhaps on your timing (because many things in Spain are closed on Monday, and often for all or part of Sundays too; and many things in Spain will also be closed daily for a very long mid-day break). That said, with so little time in Sevilla, I agree that you might want to consider visiting Cordoba as a day trip. (And I say that as someone who thought 48 hours there barely sufficient.) You might want to go as early in the day as you feel comfortable going, and then return to Sevilla when you are ready.

Good luck!

I had high hopes for Cordoba and really debated a plan to spend some nights there during my trips to Andalucia but in the end was glad that I chose Seville and Granada instead.

And this is coming from someone who thinks the Mezquita is one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings that man has ever created.

So add me to the group suggesting a day trip to Cordoba - but make it a long one and make sure you have planned your access and time in the Mezquita as a priority.

What Bedar said.

And when in Sevilla, do a "day-trip" to the the local atmosphere Triana district - "the independent republic of Triana" - on the other side of the city river Guadalquivir. Great vibe and a cradle of the flamenco culture so important for the city and the region. http://www.andalucia.com/cities/seville/triana.htm

Perhaps go for a tapas bar tour in Triana. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mFE9k0E-2Y

I am also on the side of those suggesting a day trip to Cordoba Seville was my favourite place in Spain and seven days wasn't long enough. In fact I could live in Seville especially when all the jacarandas are flowering in May.

Thank you all for your comments. It’s overwhelmingly unanimous; it looks like I’ll be planning a long day trip to Cordoba. Kja and Aramis – it was good to hear from people with high regard of Cordoba but still recommend it as a day trip in my case. And thank you kimhe for the suggestion to go to Triana; it sounds quite interesting.

And as I posted on someone else's thread, the below was the best flamenco show that I've seen in over 30 years of following flamenco; one dancer, one singer, one guitarist and in a very small theater inside of the Mercado de Triana. I was just in Seville a few weeks ago.
