Hi,

I'm going to spend 2 weeks in Sicily next September. Besides those 2 weeks, I was thinking of spending 4 nights in Naples until I watched a program about Malta on TV. It sure looked beautiful and, since it's near Sicily, I suddenly thought that, perhaps, it would be great to combine those 2 places.

Are 4 nights little time to spend on Malta or would they be enough?

Should I spend all of them on Gozo or all of them in Valetta?

I love medieval places, picturesque towns and beaches.

Not much to see in Gozo. You won't find many beaches on Malta, it's a rock in the sea. Valetta is quite nice, though! I would spend those days in Naples or Sicily!!

A few years ago, we spent 4 days in Malta. We took a tour of Valetta and saw the museum with knights armour, etc. Highly recommended. We also toured Rabat which is VERY medieval. Malta is bursting with history.

We loved Gozo because of its greenery, its slow pace and scenery.

I'd divide up my stay. Stay 3 nights in Malta and 1 in Gozo (or 2 and 2).

I REALLY liked Gozo and hope to return someday.

Hopefully, Jürgen Drews and Dieter Bohlen will stay away from Malta to keep it from becoming another German Ramba Zamba / 1-2-3 Saufen party island, like in Mallorca or Ibiza.

Nice to know you've been to Malta. There's hope for our neighbours up north yet.

I stayed one week in Gozo. They have the best rye bread on the planet .(From the ferry turn right after 200m, right behind the church on the left side.) Only very few beaches, so the Mallorca fraction won't ever go there. Malta's so crowded with people already. Gozo's too small for me. The locals are deeply catholic and speak an arab dialect. Food was so cheap there (Bavarian cheese and NZ butter at a third of the German price), but this surely has changed with the EU.

I stayed in Valletta for a week, with a daytrip to Gozo. It worked well for me, as I loved "soaking in" the history, from the Neolithic to WWII.

If you can get tickets to the Hypogeum, do! It's one of the most incredible places I've ever been. It's easy to travel around Malta by bus from Valletta, by the way, so I do recommmend staying there if you like to see sights and sites . I didn't do the beaches when I was there, so I can't help there, but Valletta, Mdina, Rabat...marvelous.

i just spent a week there with a conference of 500 lawyers from all over the world. i recomend 2 nights in nalta and 2 on gozo - san lawrence kempinski is great

Pity that Gozo is too small for Logos!! Maybe he's even more big-headed than I thought. We have had a fantastic holiday on Malta last October and spent 5 days of our 10 days in Gozo - and it was like no other place we've been. Totally scenic and peaceful. No Mallorca or Ibiza here for sure but if you really want to soak an atmosphere of calm and quiet, head there and forget the rest.
The locals are fantastic, true, maybe very catholic, but they go out of their way to help foregners at every twist.
We where 2 families of 4 adults and 2 children and spent our 5 days in Gozo at a fantastic farmhouse in Xaghra (where the oldest free standing man made structures in the form of the Ggantija Temples are). This is the best way to savour the Gozitan relaxed way of life! Farmhouse holidays are the thing there. The website of the place we stayed at is www.tadrattagozofarmhouse.com
It came complete with own private pool and all the comforts. We highly recommend it.
Gozo is much greener and serene than its larger mainland Malta which is all hustle and bustle but I would recommend staying in Gozo and hopping over a few days to Malta to get all the history and cosmopolitan way of life in doses.
Gozo has some fantastic restaurants and the best beach on the island at Ramla Hamra near Xaghra very near to where the farmhouse is located.
I am sure you would be missing something were you to skip Malta and Gozo Castellanese! It is a very well kept secret and it can only change to the worse by time. Places like Gozo are getting extinct. So go get it and you would want to return like us!
