4 Days in Genoa, Italy

Appreciate input....will travel with companion from Nice to Genoa in end December 2015/early January 2016. What are best areas to stay? Looking for budget hotels 40-50 euros per person. What are the must see's and best way to manage 4 day stay in Genoa. Many thanks.

Last year I had a pleasant stay in the Hotel Astoria, near the Brignole railway station. Atmospheric old-fashioned and within your price range. Contrary to the usual station area, this one is not sleazy.
Around the Piazza Colombo, maybe a 10-minute walk, there is a choice of restaurants.
Must-sees? The whole historical centre is a must-see. In my eyes the »Monumental Cemetary« of Staglione should not be missed. www.visitgenoa.it/en/cimitero-di-staglieno gives information, including the buses to get there (it's a long way out of the centre).
Four days give you enough time to discover it in depth.

We are planning 5 days in Genoa in march, 2016. Will stay at a hotel jst in front of the main train station, just for easy day trips.

Planning to visit: city center, Staglione Cemetery, Palazzo Reale or Palazzo Doria, day trips to Cinque Terre and Rapallo, Santa Margherita and Portofino.

Enjoy your trip, and let us know about your experience!

Make sure to eat in Trattoria da Maria, some of the best pesto I have ever tasted.
