Hello all, I've had such great luck with posts on forums for other countries that I thought I'd try this one. I will be in Ireland for a conference in Limerick in a few weeks. The conference ends on Saturday at noon and I'm flying out of Dublin early (very early!) on Monday morning. I won't have any time for sightseeing during the conference so the 36 hours is all I have. I was planning to go straight to Dublin and spend the time there. (I was in Dublin many years ago, but only for about 8 hours.) What are the absolute "must see/must do" sights and activities (keeping in mind I'll be there on a Sunday)? Best way to get to Dublin from Limerick given that renting a car is not an option? Any must stay/must eat hotels or restaurants? Many thanks!!!!
36 hours in Ireland

It all depemds what you are most interested in. I like ancient history, so visiting Trinity College and seeing the Book of Deers was high on my agenda. Also took a day trip to Newgrange and Tara.
On food, don't believe the taxi driver when he recommends a certain "fish and chips" near Christchurch, that, according to him, is the best in all Ireland. The fish is ok, but the chips are soggy and greesy. LOL
We were in Dublin in April and the two best things we did were: 1) Historical Walking Tour of Dublin and 2) the Traditional Music Pub Crawl. The Historical Walking Tour is led by history graduates of Trinity College, so they know their stuff. The tour is a great 2-hour overview of Irish history and you see a lot of the major sites in Dublin during the walk. Our guide was amusing as well as informative--we felt as if we were listening to a storyteller (which is, I guess, what a good historian is.)
The Traditional Music Pub Crawl is really about the music, not pub crawling--although you have the opportunity for a pint or two if you like. It was a combination of information, good music and a lot of fun! This was probably the highlight of our time in Dublin.
