I just posted this on the airlines forum, but thought it's applicable for here too. Just booked it for a long weekend in October!
Travelzoo just sent my friend an email, so shy of $650 later all-in, we're both flying to Madrid (yes, Spain) from Orange County later this year. I can't even believe how cheap this fare was! It's the same from LAX, so if there are any west coast adventurers out there, I'd jump on this ASAP.
This was from the email she received:
Test-booking these fares showed the $300 price was widely
available for travel Aug. 17 through Oct. 22. Some Friday
and Saturday flights in August might be priced higher.
This is an unadvertised sale, and the fares could expire or
sell out at any time.

Forgot to mention that flights are on Delta and connect in Atlanta.
Yup, LOTS of city combinations and a sale which will not last long.
wow great price.. have fun..
Thanks! I'm pretty excited and can't believe that just happened in real life.
DanG!!!!I missed out on that one....great deal. I am in LA area too.
Amsdon: Check Vayama. That's where the flight ended up coming from.
I think the prices are still available at the moment. Madrid is not the only cheap city, and some people are finding deals all the way until Christmas.
You can check Delta.com
Not that I'm going to book anything else but out of curiosity, which other cities have people seen on sale? This is a great sale!
Sadly I have forced my husband to book all 5 weeks of vacation already, so I cannot take advantage.
Go to flyertalk.com. Look at the section mileage runs, and the first or second post will be Dl: Jfk-mad $238 ai. Read this and a lot of city combinations are posted.
Actually, Delta has started pulling the fares apparently. That must mean it was a mistake of some sort.
Glad you got in on the deal!
No way! I should run out and buy a lottery ticket
I'm so glad I pulled the trigger, as they say. Yay for bargain shopping!
Well, I just plugged in LAX-MAD for Oct 5th, and it came back with multiple choices priced at around $320 r/t.
There are still tickets on Delta. I just bought LAX-Rome for $435 r/t in October. What a great deal!
We just booked, September 1-9 on Delta! There were several itineraries for $299, roundtrip from LA to Barcelona, taxes and fees INCLUDED.
This is, BY FAR, the best travel deal I've ever gotten. We wound up choosing an itinerary for $331.
Wooo hooo!
Thanks, TravelZoo!
I agree! I've never seen anything like this. Certainly not from the west coast. Congrats to you both on getting great fares too! I was so excited last night, I could hardly sleep. Better learn though--Oct's still 4 months away!
Thanks for posting I sent the link to a friend who had not yet booked their air. I hope they get it!
I couldn't wait to come on to fodors to see a posting on this and join in on the celebration. I got the email and came home and went straight to the computer, booked LAX to Madrid for $299, incredible!! I felt like dancing in my living room..I've never gotten a deal this great.
I wish I had known that it applied to other cities as my destination for Sept is actually Italy..lol. So I added a ryan air flight to Rome for $78.
I've never been to Madrid so I figured I would hang out there for a few days and then head to Rome. Congrats to Kylie and anyone else headed to Europe in the fall as a result of this excellent Delta deal.
I got SEA-MAD for Sept. 16-27 for $307 CAD, which is about $275 USD.
WillTravel, potential gtg in Madrid, 23rd or 24th?
JenV, perhaps. I have to fill in the gaps in my itinerary, but I may be in MAD then.
Me too! I'll probably be posting for help soon...this was totally spontaneous. So far I have Madrid 9-10, Positano 11-17 and then....til 24th flight home from Madrid.
On the basis of this post, I was up in a state of extreme excitement until 2 AM, when I pushed the button and bought myself a totally impulsive solo trip to Paris in November. So thanks, I think.
Good for you Nikki go for it!
Good for you Nikki.
Darn it, I missed out on this one! I was browsing last night before I even saw this thread, and there was RT Venice (including taxes) from Cleveland for $373pp! There was also RT Zurich for $279pp!! I almost booked, but thought I would sleep on it (BAD IDEA!) By this morning, they were gone. Oh well, I will keep checking, hoping another great sale will pop up. Congrats to those who booked these deals.
This was absolutely one of those times when pulling the trigger almost instantaneously seemed important. I was scared my screen would refresh and the fare would disappear into oblivion, so I called my friend, got the green light, and did it....and then thought to myself, "what just happened?"
So excited I posted this and others took advantage. Happy travels deal seekers!
One thing to keep in mind is that Delta and Northwest (also Continental and United) allow you to cancel within 24 hours, if you purchase when logged in with your frequent flyer number. So if you see a great deal that you *might* want, like this one, just familiarize yourself with the cancellation rules and buy!
Thanks Will Travel, I did not know that!
Ok I am calling you experts...one of our friends/couple is still able to book for this year.
Oct 7 departure from Lax to Mad, then returing Oct 17 (sat from Malaga/AGP to Lax.
I think we missed the boat on that one for the really low fares ...but just in case running it by you all the best we found was Delta $624.00 PP?
Also how did yoy get alterted about the good fares? Are on you some automatic e mail?
Just read this and yes, keep cking as airfare is all over the place right now. Travel Zoo and sherman put out Wed email every week w/ incredible deals.
I am on the travelzoo vip email list, which gives weekly emails with the top deals of the week and various email alerts throughout the week when special sales come up. That is how I was alerted to the $299 sale last week on Delta.
TravelZoo is how I found out about it as well. My friend got the email, but forwarded it to me, and we didn't delay in jumping online and booking. I'd sign-up for TravelZoo if you're after deals like this.
Is the VIP list different than the weekly email? How did you get on that?
I received this today, which speaks to the difference in VIP list. I think I got an email inviting me to be a vip. I believe anyone can do that once you subscribe to the Top 20 list but not sure.
--------
"As a Travelzoo VIP, you are receiving this Top 20 newsletter before other subscribers.
Every week we search 1,000+ companies for their very best sales and compile this Top 20(R) list."
Thanks....RT spain is on the $550 ish as long as it's Mad/Mad.
Either way the price is not bad.
The plot thickens!
We arrived back from this trip to Madrid last week and connected in Atlanta. Our flight was oversold, so my friend and I volunteered to give-up our seats in exchange for one night in a hotel and a $600 Delta voucher.
Getting to Spain for $329 from the west coast is pretty amazing, but having Delta pay you $600 on the way back is, well, priceless!
You won the grand prize here, kyliebaby!
This is the thread that gave me the idea to buy the ticket that is sending me to Paris next week.
Good job, Kyliebaby! And thanks again.
Nice! How was your experience with the connection in Atlanta compared to IAD, JFK, BOS, for example?
Kyliebaby, I did not do so well as you, but I did get a $100 voucher for the entertainment system not working quite right. (No, I didn't request it.) I am just a bit envious of your deal.
Nancicita, I connected in ATL. Other than the fact it was a long layover (I think something like 4 hours), it was no different than any generic connection I can think of.
Fun news from start to finish!
wow Kylie you DID get a great deal!
Thanks for the follow-up. I wish I could stumble up on a 'test fare' to Europe.
Kylie, you win.
Congrats! Where will you go with the voucher?

I just got back last week from my Delta trip to Rome ($435 R/T from LAX!). While Rome was amazing, Delta seats are not. Besides the entertainment system (movies on demand), I found little to recommend about flying delta. I swear, those were some of the most uncomfortable seats ever. And for those of you yet to go, bring snacks.
My trip report has been started here on Fodor's too.
Thanks everyone! My friend and I just kept asking each other, "Is this really happening?" Madrid was amazing too, even if it was only for four days
As for the Atlanta airport, it is actually really nice in terms of shops and restaurants (check out One Flew South in Terminal E http://www.oneflewsouthatl.com/). They are notorious for changing the gates though, and it happened to us on both outward journeys. It's a huge airport too, so not for the faint of walking. We almost missed our flight to Spain, but made it just in the nick of time!
Kristina: I'm still not sure where I'm going to go with the voucher, although I may use it for my return flight next year from the following project: www.culinaryhopscotch.blogspot.com. I'm taking off for three months to take cooking classes around Europe, and as of right now, I am booked there, but not back! I'm thinking about flying back from Istanbul to NYC and then onto California. Delta has a direct flight from IST to NYC, so it would work out perfectly. We'll see though!
Hi Kyliebaby, I'm interested in knowing more about those cooking classes in Europe you are taking!
Nancicita,
I've just started researching them in different places, and have quite a few that I need to investigate further. Let me know where you're interested in taking them, and if I have information on classes there, I will gladly pass it along. I can't wait-- hurry up January!
I am very interested! Especially French and Italian cooking classes.
Post the details if you can!
Thank You!
Here you go! These are scattered about France and Italy. Some are pretty pricey, but not entirely cost-prohibitive. I'll just have to pick and choose wisely as I travel around!
