My wife and I are spending our 30th Wedding Anniversary in Tuscany. We plan to spend 10 nights in Italy, late August into September. We will be flying into and out of Florence. We want to rent a car and in addition to visiting Florence, wish to visit different hill towns of Tuscany. Our flight out of Florence is early morning (6:30 am). Does anyone have a suggestion for an itinerary that begins and ends in Florence?

ljcrupi,
First of all, there is a lot to see in Florence so that will take a few days of your time. Make sure you take the time to climb to the top of the Duomo. It is well worth it!!!!!
We took day trips to Sienna and San Gimignano. Both cities were beautiful.
I have heard a day trip to Lucca is also very nice. We ran out of time otherwise we would have gone there.
Enjoy!!!
Bob
I hope you know about ZTL in Florence that complicates driving if you are staying inside the core of the city. It is a traffic restricted zone that should you enter it, you will be caught by a video camera and will be hit with breathtaking multiple tickets. If you are staying inside the core, postpone getting a car until you are done with Florence or do the hill towns first, return the car back to the airport to avoid wondering into the ZTL, and spend the last part of your trip in Florence to catch you return flight.
