Nov 8-11th I will be in Ireland with two good friends. We are in our (very) early 40s and are very independent minded (or at least we like to think we are). Please send your suggestions for what 3 Californians can do to make the most of three days. Thanks!

You don't say anything about where in Ireland you'll be, but with only 3 days....stay put. Get to be intimate with that one locale, visit pubs, talk to people, seek out Irish music (please don't waste time shopping!). Travel between points in Ireland is very slow and you'd waste too much time traveling around. If you are going to be, perchance, in Dublin those three days, take a double decker hop-on hop-off tour with a live guide. Visit Trinity College and the Book of Kells, cruise the Temple Bar area and Grafton Street, book theatre tickets for music or comedy....
3 days + November . . . You don't have time for much.
Where are flying in to?
Where are you flying out of?
Why only 3 days (none of my business really, but assuming this is part of a longer trip. Why did you choose Ireland and why for only 3 days?)
What sorts of things interest you?
Oh - I see from your other thread, you are traveling in from Manchester and on to London.
Maybe post your entire itinerary. Zig zagging back and forth might not be the best use of your time.
3 days only! I know! We leave kids, husbands, boyfriends and work every November for a short trip to Europe. I know it sounds crazy to most, but it works for us. Last year we did Spain and this year we picked England and Ireland. I used to live in London, but one of us has never been. One of us honeymooned in Ireland, but two of us have never been. I don't have our flights yet to and from Ireland. Thought I would post here and see what people recommend first!
Thanks
That's why I asked the rest of your plans. There are options -- like flying from CA into Dublin and home from London (or MAN) and saving the extra hassle/crisscrossing.
In Nov you will have very short days and chilly and probably damp weather. I would avoid the countryside (I know this is heresy, but consider the time of year) and spend the time in Dublin, which is a charing although not very large city. There are a bunch of historical sights, some great museums, a very active theater scene (try to see something local - perhaps Wilde if there is any available) as well as a very active social scene at Temple Bar.
If you want to head out of the city go to Newgrange - a neolithic site you can actually enter - and nothing like you will see anywhere else - easy for a half-day trip.
We always fly using FF miles to justify our trips alone! We booked our flights months and months ago and we fly into Manchester and out of London! I know...crazy sounding, but from Calif using only 40k FF miles is wonderful to us! Those flight are direct!
I like the input about a half day trip to Newgrange.
And bad weather is so fine for us! We live in good weather. Bad weather is always a real risk and has never ruined a trip for us. We are very optimistic and easily have fun.
Last year we were in Costa Brava (Spanish vacation/beach area) on a deserted rainy day and still had a great time, but thank you for ensuring my expectations are lowered. It is helpful to be reminded.

I can vouch for Oliver St. John Gogarty's pub (music and food) in Temple Bar!

I think you're getting great advice and I agree that Newgrange should be a worthwhile and close excursion out of Dublin. It would help to know what is really of interest to you....we are looking forward to a two hour Historical Walking Tour in Dublin but that's cuz we're interested in history. There are walking literary tours and walking trad music tours...depends so much on what you like.
