3 Weeks starting from Barcelona

Hello,

My younger brother and I just bought round-trip tickets to barcelona for august. We have three weeks and not-too-big a budget. Ideally, we'd like to go from barcelona to paris, paris to rome, then back to barcelona (and from each of those cities, some trips to smaller cities).

Any suggestions on what other cities to hit?

And more importantly, what is the absolute cheapest way to get from barcelona to paris, paris to rome, and rome to barcelona? Is a eurail pass worth it even w/ the likely reservation fees for these inter-country trips? Or should I just be looking out for cheap flights?

    I would look for some cheap airfares within Europe. Easyjet is one airline you might try. Others might have some other suggestions for airfares. I did find a fare from Nice to Paris on Air France for less than 100 last year. Too bad you already bought your round-trip tickets. If you can change your flights I suggest trying to change to an open jaw. Fly into Barcelona and either out of Paris or Rome. Even if you have to pay a change fee it would cut out one transport to one of the cities. Your trip would then be: Barcelona to Paris and then to Rome and home from there. In terms of train travel, I tried the eurail pass once and decided it was not worth it financially. I now do point to point tickets and generally if you buy the tickets in advance you can pick up tickets inexpensively however you are looking at long train rides. Paris to Rome would be an overnighter. You can find some inexpensive accommodations and might consider an apartment because you would not be eating out as much. For 3 weeks, I would limit to Barcelona, Rome and Paris. There is enough to see in all cities to keep you busy for 1 week each. Day Trips from each-Rome (Day Trip to Florence). Paris-There are several places within an hour from Paris- i.e. Monets Jardin, Versailles, Chartres are prob. the big 3.
