Great pics on Dijon GG! I added a comment on one of them. Now I'm going to watch the other albums...

Thanks, Coco. Glad you like them, and thanks also for adding the location to the picture of the back of the Law Court. I couldn't remember what it was. We really enjoyed our day in Dijon and hope to return someday to see more.

encornet = calamari

The 17th cent. character would appear to be a grammarian given the text. But he could also be a painter since the text refers to the changes in the root of peindre when conjugated.

You keep a better record of locations than I do. Thanks for helping me identify a location.

Nottingham - I've been away from the forum for awhile. Here's a link to my thread where FrenchMystiqueTours gave me much good information including the route we followed to the Semnoz Plateau.

TPAYT, Nottingham & FMT: Thanks for your nice comments about my pics.

Michael: You win the grand prize for research! How did you ever find Vaugelas? I had looked a little, but with no success. I must say, after many years of study of French language and literature, this is not a name I remember. Thanks! Which location did I identify for you?

There are not that many famous 17th century French grammarians.

I'll have to look at the pictures again to identify the location.
