3 week trip itinerary greece,Italy,France

My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon in late May and early June for 3 weeks. We have been to paris and venice in the past and wanted to incorporate both places into this trip along with some new places. Here is what I'm thinking at this point....does anyone have any suggestions or see any problems with logistics.

Fly into Athens 2 nights
Bus/ ferry to skopelos 3 nights
Ferry to skiathos 1 night
Flight to santorini 3 nights
Flight to rome 2 nights
Train/taxi to almafi coast 3 nights
Taxi/train back to rome 1 night
Night train to venice 1 night
Night train to paris 3 nights
Fly back home.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks. Steve.

Too many places in too little time.

With 2 nights in Athens and Rome you get only one day in each one - IMHO might as well not go. You have either part or one day in Venice and only 2 days in Paris - again - why bother.

Taking a taxi from Rome to AC would cost in the region of $400 each way. Train is the way to go - plus local train or taxi and/or bus - depending on exactly where you decide to stay.

There is no sleeper train Rome to Venice - it takes less than 4 hours on the fast train. You can go overnight on a slow train - but you have to change trains on the way - so really not much sleeping.

I fear you will spend a lot of time and money rushing around and end up not remembering much, with everything a blue - and probably not the type of relaxing honeymoon you would want.

I would cut back to avoid all of those hotel changes and train trips/flights and leave time for cafe sitting, relaxing and just enjoying yourselves.

Sorry - also no need to go back to Rome to get to Venice. Just hop a train in Naples and take it to Venice with just one quick change on the way.

Still too many but better might be Athens, 1 other Greek destination, Rome, Amalfi, Venice all 3 nights each and 4 in Paris. That would give you 2 full days in each place and a travel day between. Then 3 full days in Paris. Fly from Greece to Italy and Italy to Paris.

If it was my trip, I'd spend a week on 1 big Greek Island, 4 nights each in 2 Italian destinations and Paris.

Thanks for the feedback....my biggest issue was trying to fit Skopelos into the itinerary; it seems like such a beautiful island. It's just very time consuming getting to and again leaving from. If I exclude it we can spend 4 nights in Santorini and Almafi. I'm thinking three nights should be fine for rome because we would be checked in by 2:00pm on day one. The train from Naples to venice helps a lot. It arrives in venice early afternoon. Taking the night train from venice to paris gives us an extra full day in venice and adds a full day to paris. So I think 2 nights in venice would be good. That gives us 5 nights in paris. We still would love to explore another Greek island. Is there an island that compares to Skopelos in the ferry route from athens to santorini? But you're right about all the destinations. Each one adds a lot of time coming and going...dang.

For reasons of weather, I would consider reversing the itinerary, since May is rather early to be enjoying the Greek islands. Volotea has flights from Naples to Santorini, but I don't know if they start running as early as late May/June. But if so, this might work:

Paris
Venice
Rome
Amalfi
Flight from Naples to Santorini
Greek islands
Athens -- fly home

There are lots of beautiful Greek islands, many nearer to Santorini than Skopelos. If you like pebble beaches, Skopelos would be great, but it's in a different island group, Sporades. Folegandros and Amorgos are acclaimed for their beauty, and have the advantage of being in the same island group as Santorini, the Cyclades.

After checking the climate for each destination I think I'm going to stick with starting south and working our way north. That will give venice and paris a chance to warm up a bit. My finance still wants to see one more island.... I think Milos will work great for some beautiful beaches. It's on the way to santorini as well. We can take a day from paris and one from almafi or santorini and make it work. Thanks for all your help.

While I can't quite figure out what the OP has decided to do, aren't we glad he asked?

(And then there's the reference to "My finance...". Oops.)
