3 seniors to do Scotland

We are 3 senior citizens (we're old) looking to do Scotland in 14-21 days in July-August. We will probably look at airbnb and VRBO for places to stay in addition to hotels if necessary. We want to take in the festival in Edinburgh. What other places should we look at as far as places to stay that would be good places to visit and take day trips from. The less driving the better. A short flight to another location is acceptable. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Glasgow could be another base. It also has interesting stuff in the city itself.

Galashiels would be a good base for the Tweed valley. A car would be useful for touring, as may be the case for any base outside Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Generally I would decide what to see and then choose a base accordingly, which is how we chose Galashiels on our trip to Scotland.

These photos might give you some idea of what to see in Scotland:

Using them along with a map might help establish various bases for your trip.

If it were me, I'd do Edinburgh, the west (Oban? Plockton? Port Appin? Gairloch?) and either Fife OR Perthsire OR Aberdeenshire.
