3 free days pre cruise in london...
Hello...
We'll be taking a Princess cruise in southhampton in Sept... we'll be in london for about 2 1/2 days beforehand... was wondering what would be a good itinerary to do, plus also, has anyone gone on there own, not used the cruiselines transfer to go to the boat in southhampton. How much is it? and how would you go about going on your own? thanks for your help!

It would help to know where you are staying, what your interests are, are you taking children, etc. We did the Golden Princess cruise thru Ireland and Scotland last July. It was wonderful. People I met on cruisecritics.com got together and organized our own tours and saved a bunch of money. As far as the transfers go, we just used Princess transfers since it seemed more convenient.

..thanks for your reply... it's just myself and my mom going. We don't have a hotel yet... looking for one at this moment preferably with breakfast, looking to spend about $100.00-$150.00 a night, if thats even possible, would spend more in necessary. Want to take in the sights, the more important ones and then from there, Sat morning, we're going to Southhampton to catch the boat so Im hoping I'll get some feedback as to peoples opinion as to how to get from london to the boat.

I spent 9 days in London with my 15 yr old daughter & am going back with my husband this year... all on our own, no tours.
Here are some recommendations:
The Tower of London - purchase tickets on the web to avoid standing in long lines. This is a great tour & experience.
Take a guided walk to get oriented: http://london.walks.com/
Visit St. Paul's Cathedral (go to the Whispering Gallery).
Go to the theatre! You can get last minute deals on plays/musicals.
The iconic London Sites are: Big Ben (Westminster Tube Stop) and Trafalgar Square. Both are free & easy to visit on your way to something else.
The London Eye - ferris wheel.
That should fill up a couple of days - grin.

Hi mireya 16,
My husband and I stayed at the Radisson Edwardian Vanderbilt which is in Kensington. I enjoyed it and I loved the location. It was within walking distance of a few museums and Harrods. It was around $175 a night,(but they offer senior discounts, AAA discounts, etc.) which included a great breakfast buffet and it included the VAT tax. Make sure you hunt for that as well in the price as it's 17% (I think) It's also within walking distance of many restaurants and I felt safe walking at any time of the day and night (tho not too late). It was also near a few markets which we used to buy soda and luncheon meat. Eating in London is expensive!so we made sandwiches for lunch and then had a really nice dinner out somewhere. We, too, went to the Tower of London which we enjoyed. Also enjoyed Churchill's War Room. It was very interesting. I'd recommend Mary Poppins if you like musicals. We enjoyed it so much we are going into the city when it opens on Broadway this fall. In any case, enjoy! (I'd go back in a heartbeat!)
