3 days in Seville/ Granada. Suggestions please
Hi,
I will be flying from Barcelona on Nov 5th evening. I have till Nov 8th evening to take a train to Madrid. Please suggest whether to stay and fly to Seville from Barcelona and take a day trip to Granada or fly to Granada and then take the train next day evening to Seville. I know its short time but I don’t want to miss the Allahmbara. Very few tickets are left for the Allahbara for 1.30 pm time slot ( morning) and would appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks.

You would probably be better off flying to Granada and then moving on to Seville. It is about 3 hours between them so that is one long day trip (more than 6 hours in total) and your visit to Alhambra would be in jeopardy.
Fly to Granada enjoy the taps bars for dinner, view Alhambra lit up, take your tour the next day and then whatever train works for you on to Seville.
The bus is often a better suggestion between Granada and Seville as it takes about the same time and may be more convenient.

Yes, the Alhambra is a must; however, we preferred the environment, 'flavor' of Seville much more than Granada, so I'd stay in Seville and day-trip for the Alhambra tour. Seville easy to navigate on foot. But last spring Granada was under major road construction-- we were driving over from Seville and the navigation in the city was not easy especially since we were staying in a pedestrian zone -- no doubt, this slanted our views, but we four liked Seville much more. In Seville, we can certainly recommend Vineria San Telmo and San Marco for wonderful dinners, both in the old quarter. Enjoy your trip!

I think you'd do best to fly to Granada. If possible, get there in time to visit the Nasrid Palace in the evening. Then go back the next day to see the Alhambra (including, but not only) the Nasrid Palace in daylight and at greater leisure. (With a 1:30 time slot, you can enter as soon as it opens; you just can't enter the Nasrid Palace until the stated time.) Then head to Sevilla. Enjoy!

Major flamenco event in Barcelona in the days before Nov 5th. "La Capitana" is a homage to the greatest flamenco dancer of all times, Carmen Amaya from Barcelona (1913-1963). All nights from Oct 30 at majestic Teatre Nacional de Catalunya: http://www.tnc.cat/en/la-capitana-ho...en-amaya-info/

Having just returned from a 2 week trip to Andalucia, I can say that the place we most fell in love with was Seville. Granada is NOT a day trip from Seville, it is quite far so you would have to spend a day/night there, in my opinion, if you want to see the Alhambra.
Personally, I would spend as much time as possible in Seville, and go to Granada for a day/night.
I pre-booked two separate visits to the Alhambra, as many suggested and recommended, one for a day visit and for a night visit separately. I can honestly say that I felt it was a waste of time and money and if you spend one full day there, it is more than enough. Just my opinion. And I am sure I will be in the minority.
I am in the midst of writing and posting my trip report here on this board so if you click my name you can get to it. It is almost complete but not quite.
Enjoy your vacation.

We just returned from an 11 day trip in Seville and did two day-trips, one to Cadiz and one to Granada. Granada was very easy since you can take a high-speed train which takes approx 45 minutes gtetting you there mid-morning. I saw my first bull-fight in Seville.

It's quite a bit cheaper to fly BCN to SEV, but for the sake of time I would fly to Granada to see the ALHAMBRA. We only visited during the day, but I bet it's an amazing experience at night. That being said, with time so short, I would book the day slot, and then make my way to Seville (3hrs by train). Granada is a nice city, but The Alhambra is the star there. Seville has much more character IMO.

No high speed rail to Granada that I am aware of (?) but Seville to Mad is only an 1 1/2 hr. Also, not sure how committed you are to seeing the Alhambra, but i might consider going BCN to SEV, for the 2 days and maybe hitting Cordoba's mezquita for a few hours on the way to Mad. All on the same high speed rail line...either way you can't go wrong!

Um - No....No you can't take a 45 minute high speed train to Granada from Seville. It's 3 hours.
You meant Cordoba, I think

My evening visit to the Alhambra remains one of my most treasured travel moments EVER, and I've been fortunate enough to travel rather extensively. I'm sorry your experience there was less rewarding.
