3 days in Crete
At the end of August I will be in Crete (Chania) for 3 full days (arriving late Thursday leaving on Monday). I’m just starting to do some research on this very brief visit to this Island so I was wondering what are the “must do's” in this area of Crete? I realize that it is a short time to plan a visit to other islands (Santorini?) or do you think I definitively should squeeze that in the agenda? After Crete I will spend two days in Athens to see the usual sites.
I’m interested in photography, small towns, Churches, local life, food and not so much interested in beaches or nightlife. Many thanks!

Crete is a huge island and in 3 days you probably will just need to spend all that time in Chania. On one day you might rent a car and explore a bit, perhaps Ancient Aptera or the beach at Falasarnia or even catch the excursion boat to Balos. Other than that just plan to enjoy Chania. The old town is lovely and you will have just enough time to really explore. Do not even think about going to a second island. It will take away over half a day to make the transfer by ferry.

You won't have enough time to see much....
Spend one day exploring the city of Chania, then rent a car and explore western Crete. The excursion to Balos is fantastic, especially for taking pictures.
With the car you can also go to Rethymnon ( 60 km away) an equal beautiful city to Chania. On the way you can visit the Koumnas Lake ( the only natural lake of the island) and also make a small tour to see the villages from Atsipopoulo till Roustika, some of the last venetian villages of Crete.

I also have the similar question. In addition, though, are there any day trips for groups run out of Chania to the same areas? I'm traveling solo and looking for experiences to meet people. Any accommodations in Chania you can recommend with a community vibe?
Thanks!
Thanks!

here is a list of some of the excursions that you can book on the spot :
•Cretan Evening
•Samaria Gorge
•Knossos Heraklion
•Elafonissi Beach
•Falassarna Beach
•Gramvoussa & Balos Bay
•Santorini
Depending on season some excursions might not be operating, they are on sale in every local travel agency.
When will you be travelling to Crete, what is your budget?
