3 days in Budpest and 3 days in Prague

We have the opportunity to spend 3 full days in Budapest and Prague next week (with part of a day either side after flying in). Never been there before. I would love advice on potential itineraries to make the best use of our time. We are interested in photography, history, good food and short walks. We are also open to the idea of a half day or full day tour if that would be beneficial. If any fodorites can help, we would appreciate it!

I'm going in two weeks to both cities. I always do thorough preparation, so I don't have to think when I go somewhere, I will know.

Below are some relevant links that you can look at.

Public transportation in Prague is cheap and easy. A 24 hour pass is about $2.75 There is a metro line that runs right through the main attractions. If you take the metro to the first stop, go to the Tram #22 to get to the Prague Castle.

You need to make sure you have relevant smaller amounts of money in krowns and florins. For easy translation of currencies, I use 20 crowns to the dollar and 200 florins to the dollar. Remember, most local pubs won't take credit cards.

These are all relevant links. Spend an hour or two looking them over and making notes.

Hi Rastaguytoday,

Thank you so much for these incredible links and all the fabulous information.

Next year, my husband and I + friends are going to Prague, Salzburg, river cruise Passau to Budapest via Vienna et al. Your incredible research will stand us in good stead. We do so appreciate your generosity in sharing them.

I agree that it is best to do the research before arriving at any city!
