2015 Flight Prices

I am planning a two week trip to Paris next fall. Out of curiosity looked at flights for next year. Wow, $1350 from Boston to Paris direct flight Air France. For anyone looking for next year what are you hoping to pay for a direct flight? I am hoping to find something between $1000 to $1100. Am I just wishful thinking?

Look at Icelandic Air to Paris. One stop today at $1015.

This is in the late June, early July time frame, 2015.

The recent merger is responsible for the higher prices. The legacy carriers have little competition now.

I'm flying USAir (1connection) to Paris in April. Paid $1300 in early July and thought that was a lot. Two wks later It went up to $1700 and has been there since.

Also going to Paris in August. Flights w/ 1 connection at $1700. Icelandic will get me there w/ 2 connections for $1427. Still hoping it will go down and checking daily.

We paid the highest we ever paid last June---Chicago to London, return Paris to Chicago $1,500.
We've been traveling Chicago to Paris in Sept. for many years and didn't even come close to this price.

Besides the fact that they have made flying nearly intolerable, the price keeps going up. As one flight attendent said to us, "Well, look, all the seats are full."

For 2015 we will definitely rethink our travel plans.

I think most people are rethinking their travel plans since the latest consolidation (US Airways-American Airlines). The are some things you can do (travel for business and take the tax write-off), but prices will not be going down any time soon. Fewer flights mean higher ticket prices for those traveling coach class. Those who usually travel business or first class are really not affected by the cost of a ticket.

I don't consider $1350 RT to Europe from the East Coast in September anything unusual or exceptional, especially for nonstop-. I paid that this year, for beginning of October and only one way was direct (the other way couldn't have been as I was going to Seville). If by Fall you mean more end of November into early December, sometimes fare are a little lower then than in Sept-October.

So I think $1350 isn't any higher than this year and maybe you aren't aware of current prices.

I'd say keep looking. We flew non stop from Washington Dulles to Geneva for $840 in late August and non stop to Paris for $890 in mid October. In each case the lower fare was for available for less than 2 weeks. We bought the August tickets in mid June and the October tickets in early August.

It has everything to do with how much competition there is on a route and little to do with direct, indirect, etc., etc. Do you really think prices for air tickets are going to consistently get lower as time goes on? And isn't is always interesting that those low prices everyone tells you they got are inevitably for somewhere you have no intention of going and for a time of year you aren't going to travel?

I just bought tickets to Paris for late February departure returning mid March. We paid $1800 for premium economy on Air France. I have been watching prices for a while and have seen no movement. Last year we paid around $1600 for the same tickets.

We just found $1170 econ EWR-Paris next September, planning on using reward mileage and upping to premium economy, although in a wide-body, with window/aisle it's not too terrible, I do not sleep regardless.

We were able to upgrade to business using miles last year. Hopefully we can again. We slept last year and it was nice to not be so tired when we landed. We will see how it works out.

bought tic for hubby Austin-Rome RT in April 2014 for $1500 for Oct23-Nov 15, 2014 trip. Price went down to $1350. I would track it and then you feel you have a good price, jump on it. Just read in today's paper "oil prices down, airline tickets up".

Just in case you have British Miles, we used Aer Lingus last year Boston to Paris via Dublin. Great way to use these miles since they only charge 12K per person and don't have the onerous fees that BA charges. You might look into getting a BA card to get the miles.

We just purchased Business RT from MCI to CDG on American for $2,100 for the end of March through Easter Sunday. Economy was hovering at $1,200 and PE was flexing between $1,600-1,800.00. I got a price alert last week that had the sale in it. Same tickets today are $4,100.00.

I'd recommend a Kayak price alert with daily notifications. I've been following this route and days for about 5 months now and it has had a few sales pop up now and then - luckily I wasn't quick enough to get $858.00 RT Economy Tickets on American three weeks ago and got these Business tickets. The added benefit (if any really) is that AA's international Business tickets are 1st class for the domestic legs (to DFW and from ORD). Wife was very pleased with the savings!

I hope that you waited to buy your tickets. You can fly non stop from Boston to Paris on Air France or Delta for less than $800 starting in mid-October. If you want to come down to DC you can fly United from Boston via Dulles for about $750.

Non stop flights from Washington to Paris on both United and Air France are $740. The sale seems to be good only to Paris. Cities such as Geneva and Munich are still over $1000.

I agree with cwra. Those prices are about what I see as well. I have Bos-CDG in PE for November for $1,600. I bought them in March, and the price is the same today.

Having said that, you can't really go by current prices. Air tickets fluctuate so much, who knows what they'll be next week, let alone next year.
