2 week France Itinerary Opinions Please

Jump to last reply

This trip is actually for May of 2016, but DH and I are wanting to at least narrow down the itinerary so I'd like some opinions, please. It will be me and DH. We have been to France once before, having been to Giverny, Versailles, Normandy and Paris.

DH is a history buff and we're covering the remainder of the sites in Normandy that we missed the first time. Beyond that, we'd like to see Mont St. Michel, Dinan, and two Chateau that are close to Paris (Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte). It's the logistics that I'd like opinions on. The first part is firm, having booked with the tour guide we used before for Normandy (Stuart Robertson, highly recommended). We'll be staying at his B&B. The rest of the time between then and when we arrive in Paris are up in the air. This is what I've come up with:

Thursday (26th) – fly STL to CDG, arriving Friday (27th)

Friday (27) – arrive mid-morning, take train to Normandy area to be picked up by Stuart. Settle in and have dinner.

Saturday, Sunday, Monday – (28-30) tour WWII battle sites. Tour ends at 5:00pm Monday. Will be dropped off at Caen railway station to rent a car. Stay the night in Caen.

Tuesday (31) – go to Caen WWII museum in the morning, then drive to Mont St. Michel.
Spend afternoon at Mont St. Michel, staying the night in one of the hotels off the island for night views.

Wednesday (1) morning– drive to Dinan for 2 nights, spend either Wed or Thurs afternoon in St. Malo.

Friday (3) – drive to Chateau Vaux-le-Vicomte outside Paris (4 hours). See Chateau in afternoon and spend the night in Fontainebleau.

Saturday (4) – see Chateau Fontainebleau, return car at Fontainebleau station and take the train to Paris to end up at our Paris apt for 7 nights, which includes one side trip to Versailles (gardens only).

Saturday (11) – fly home

Melody
