2 Questions about Southern Germany

Hi,

1. How do you pay for gas in Southern Germany? Are credit cards acceptable or do we need cash.
We're driving from Fankfort to Rothenberg to Fussen.

2. For Nueschwanstein Castle:
Where is the ticket center, can we drive right to it or do we have to park and take transportation to it?

Thanks natjgc

#2 - We didn't drive to Hohenschwangau, which is very small, but I do recall a parking area right in the middle of the village. The ticket booth is just up the road/hill from the car park and easily accessible by foot.

MC and Visa are accepted at most gas stations. I never have had it refused. Last I was there a few years ago, many people living in the Fussen environs would drive just over the border to Austria to fill up as the gas was cheaper. There is a huge station just over the border. Most cars on line had German plates.

Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere. It's when you try to use a debit card, even one affilitaed with Visa, that it gets hairy.

Also, many petrol stations have auto pumps that operate even when the store/counter is closed. We had a devil of a time getting one of those machines to accept any of our five different cards because we didn't have the special chip integrated in our cards that the Europeans have.

Hi N,

1. Don't buy gas on Sunday when the pumps are not staffed.

The automatic pumps take only the chip and pin cards.

2, The parking lot is not far from the ticket center. You can walk.

Enjoy your visit.
