2 full days in Strasbourg - need advise on what tours to take

My husband and I will be at Strasbourg, France, from august 4th until august 7th, so we will have 2 full days to go around. Can any one recommend what to do those two days? tour advise? We are not the museum kind of people. love to go around, little villages, good food and wine lovers. Thank you

Do you have a car? If so you could do a drive around the wine route - there are lovely villages to visit and great food and wine!

If not you could consider taking the train to Colmar to get a feel for a smaller town in comparison to Strasbourg.

We just spent a were in Riquewihr and the region...you can see our photos here for ideas

Train to Colmar, bus to Equisheim, visit wine producers and little restaurants in both, walk around the walls, catch bus and train back.

IN Strasbourg itself I would certainly visit the catehdral as well as walk around in the so-called "old town."

there are boat tours in Strasbourg on its canals and these go out around the newer part of town where the EU installations are - avant-garde architecture and a nice float.

I quite enjoyed the boat tour two years ago. I just spent a day in Strasbourg on that trip (but I have been there many times) and here is the report that I made about my day: http://tinyurl.com/sxb-2012

I think for most one full day in Strasbourg is enough - we used it as a base from which to hop to Colmar and also over the Germany to Baden-Baden - easily done by train and one of Europe's most famous old-time watering holes - with ornate casino where rich and famous a century or so again gathered.

cpmin.......we fly into Paris Oct 1 and will immediately take the train to Strasbourg using it as a base for roughly 4 days. What hotel are you staying in?

Based on this thread, we will train to Colmar for a day.....perhaps Equisheim and do a boat tour in Strasbourg. Need to read up on Baden-Baden to see if that is our cup of tea.

We like all the pursuits cpmin mentioned, in addition to also enjoying museums. Can someone recommend a wine tour?

jamikins and kerouac.....we have enjoyed your pictures!

You could walk around the Petite France area, as well as near the cathedral. I really liked two museums in Strasbourg, but that is out....

I also did a day trip to Nancy from Strasbourg, but it is another good sized city.

We are returning to Strasbourg in August (we visited in November of last year as well). We loved the Christmas markets and we are really eager to see the city in the summertime. Our plans include the boat tour (when it isn't so frigid!), taking a gander at the EU Building, L'Orangerie in the Palais de l"Europe, Alsace Museum (closed the only day we had available in November), Barrage Vauban, shopping on Rue des Orfevres and that general area, and we have a day tour set with Suzele of Get Alsaced (we love to drink wine and it's much easier and smarter to have someone drive for us).

Strasbourg is a beautiful place and I think you are going to love it!

Paris1953: thank you for your suggestions! I hope you will report back on what you enjoyed and where you dined. I will check into that wine tour.

What hotel are you staying in?

Christina: can you tell me which two museums you liked? My husband was thinking of traveling to Nancy, but has nixed it now.

If you go on the Haut Alsace or indeed the Bas Slsace website you should be able to spot the wine festivals, normally at the weekend and a very pleasant way of enjoying yourself.

It would be nice if the OP made a comment on the suggestions. Okay, it's only been 2 days, but we're used to people coming back to their thread every 15 minutes. ;-)

I am sorry for not responding. I've been very busy with the travel arrangements because we are taking our daughter to Cambridge, UK for studying and are going with her to doctors before the trip which is the day after tomorrow. She has a medical condition and I want to make sure she is going to be ok. I will comeback tonight. Thank you for your understanding
