2 Days near Frankfurt

My first trip to Germany and we just have two nights. We don't want to stay in Frankfurt, would renting a car and driving to Heidelberg area or ??? be best?!
Any ideas are welcome.

You could take the train to Mainz and do a Rhein cruise to Rudesheim and overnight there. Or drive along the Rhein and even the Mosel rivers. I used to live above Mainz right on the Rhein river and it is a very pretty area.
A couple of years ago we were on our way back from Singapore and only ha a few days in Frankfort. A German friend suggested that we get right on a train and go to Cologne. What a treat! The train traveled along the Rhine and we were able to enjoy the scenery from wonderful seats. Cologne is so interesting. The cathedral is a very special sight. Enjoy!

Pat, just returned from a one-night stay in Oberwesel on the Rhine River. Stayed at the fabulous Auf Schoenburg Castle Hotel (http://www.hotel-schoenburg.com/) with commanding views of the Rhine and a great gourmet restaurant. You could do a river cruise or drive along the B9 past numerous picturesque little towns and castle ruins everywhere!

Oberwesel is just a little over an hour's drive from Frankfurt. Would highly recommend it.

Pat- Train reservations were not necessary. We stayed at the Excelsior Hoter Ernst in Cologne which was very close to the railroad station and across from the Wonderful historic Cathedral. The hotel was wonderful!
