2 days 1 night in London

We will be traveling to South Africa next July and spending 2days/1night on a stopover in London, flying into Heathrow on July 25 AM and out on July 26 PM. Looking for a place to stay not too far from the airport, midrange price, with interesting sites. Never been to England and I know there are so many choices, but so little time on this trip. Any suggestions will be welcome.

The main interesting site near the airport is Windsor/Windsor castle about 7 miles from LHR, so you could stay there. But mid price doesn't tell us anything much. what is your actual budget?

Otherwise, with that schedule you could easily stay in central London and have the choice of hundreds of interesting things to do.

Heathrow is on the Piccadilly tube line so you can stay anywhere along the line, from an airport hotel to right in London and not be that far from quick convenient access to your flight out.

It is just under an hour for the trip right into central London and if you have to haul your luggage somewhere (unless you stay at an airport hotel) you should consider getting close to the main sites. Hounslow, which is close to Heathrow and on the Piccadilly line too, is not known for its interesting sites - unless there are some Hounslowian aficionados out there to inform us otherwise?.

We could spend between $150-200 for the night- any suggestions? We are traveling with carry-on luggage only, quite a feat for me for a 12 day trip that involves a safari! So, I think managing on public transport should not be too much of an issue. thanks for your reply.

The issue will be in finding accommodations in London for $150-200. It's possible but probably not considered mid-range.

Go to Windsor - stay in the travelodge walking distance to the Castle

http://www.travelodge.co.uk/hotels/3...-Central-hotel

In central London $200 is not 'mid range' - doable but not nearly mid-range. Thw Windsor travelodge will have rooms w/i your budget and you can explore the town/castle/Eton and be w/i a cab or bus ride of LHR.

All this is assuming that "we" is a couple who can share a double bed. More people and you will need to look much further.

Let's cross our fingers and hope I didn't send her horribly off track.

Here is the corrected link from my previous post of sub $US 200 hotels in central London on the OP's dates;

http://tinyurl.com/kyvr5kc

Hiltons, citizenMs, Mercures, Ibis', Premier Inn's, all rated higher than 8 out of 10, and located near The Tower of London, Fleet Street, Bloomsbury, Waterloo and Victoria.

Thank you, I have checked out some of these suggestions and like the citizenMs- how easy is it to get to from Healthrow Airport?

The CitizenM is not at all convenient to LHR. It is on Bankside and would take a train an two tube rides and 1 Hr 10 mins or two (different) tube rides and 1:20 hrs - and a lot of luggage schlepping.

(That link was a list of hotels - they weren't filtered for location or anything but price)

If you want to stay in central London - pick one on the Piccadilly tube line.
