2-3 days Northern Italy/Provence (Oh, and Austria or Eslovenia?)

We're preparing a long trip in Eastern Europe, which will finish, coming from Budapest and Vienna, in Venezia. And as we live in southwestern Europe, after making the day-table we've seen that we have after Venezia 2-3 days to come back home, to do some 1,500-2,000 kilometres. Because of that, we'd like to know which advice you could make to do stops on the route Venezia-Bilbao, since all are not possible: Padova? Verona? Lago di Garda? Bergamo? Milano? Pavia? Genoa? Monaco? Nice? other places in Provence? please let us know the musts for 3 days in that area.

We also would like to know which route to take from Vienna to Venezia: all motorway entering Udine and so on or cruise Eslovenia, stopping previously in Graz?

Have thought about Carcassonne? I think it is the most beautiful town in Southern France -maybe even in all France, except Paris-.

Well, again we all have different opinions, but when we spent two full months traveling southern France and northern Italy by car a few years ago, there was only one city we truly hated --Carcassone. From the distance it was truly beautiful, but from the time we entered the walls and spent two days there we disliked its totally touristy and overcrowded atmosphere. Can't explain it, but there have been other similar posts on this site.

Hi I just read your posting and would like to make a couple of suggestions. Verona is a beautiful city we spent some time there several years ago. It is definitly worth a visit. We were also in Graz years ago and enjoyed it so much we spent an extra day there. It is a relaxed city with a large student population. Have you considered since writing of Northern Italy a visit to the Dolomites? The mountain are spectacular and a\their is a great trip I read and followed in the Michelen green guide from Cortina through the mountains. When you mentions Eslovinia are you referring to the country of Slovenia? We were there several years ago and stayed in Piran, a very nice city on the Adriatic. Great Italian seafood restaurants in Piran. People come from Italy in their boats.
alan
