1st visit to Santorini

My husband and I leave in a week to visit Athens for 3 days and Santorini for 4 1/2 days. The Athens days are set but I keep reading about all of the things to do on Santorini and am trying to figure out how to fit in: volcano trip, ancient thera, a beach (which one???), sunset in Oia, wineries, geocaching and still have time to just "feel" the island. I think that is really most important to us. Can we do that and experience all of the above? Scooters? Hikes? Buses? Any advice is greatly appreciated. I have been waiting for this for several years! THANKS....jennifer

You can combine the beach and Ancient Thera because the road up to the site begins in the beach village of Kamari.

Sigalas Winery is in Oia.

You can board a boat for the volcano/caldera excursion in several villages. Just wait until you're there to see what's offered then.

Strolling through any of the villages will give you the island feel.

You can hike up to Ancient Thera from either Perissa Beach or Kamari Beach. There's a cliffside hiking trail between Oia and Imerovigli.

The island has an excellent bus system.

Don't rent scooters unless you're experienced, the local drivers are nuts and the roads are hazardous.

Oia is the most beautiful and timeless village but they all have something to offer.

I'm planning to visit Greece in the end of November and the begining of December. I'm not able to make up my mind about traveling to Santorini as I hear it will be raining there. Could some one please help me out with the kind of weather one can expect as I am from India and from whatever I have read it appears that the weather is going to be quite similar to the winters in India.
Also do the resturants and market places open or they all shut down in the Winters with only a few for the local people. Is it the same about the night life as well???
Also pl suggest on wat are the towns which are a "must" visit. Can't make up my mind.
Thanks
Amrita

It will be cold and windy with paritally cloudy skies. Mornings will be damp. Rainfall on the island is low but it is possible. 90% of all businesses will be closed. Mostly, only those serving the local population remain open, with the exception of a few hotels and restaurants. The nightlife will be very limited since most of the bars and discos will have closed in October. Your best chance for hotels, restaurants and entertainment will be in Fira. Oia is the most beautiful village.
