1st time to Italy...need help picking where to go!
Hi everyone!!! Me and 2 of my best friends are wanting to head to Italy next summer and need some help putting together a itinerary! I know we would like to see the major sites in Rome, Venice, and Florence and would also like to visit a beach! We are all college students so of course were looking for the cheapest and quickest way to travel while experiencing all Italy has to offer! Would love to hear peoples thoughts...thanks!!!

How long are you all planning to go for?
Can you fly into Venice and fly our of Rome? That will save lots of travel time.
A beach on the Adriatic may be a good choice since you want to go to Venice.
Another choice is the Tuscan coast or Lazio coast after Florence. Nice beaches there not overly crowded.
You can take local trains rather than expensive inter city express. That's a fine way to save lots of money.

Basically Italy is on holiday July and August. So if your idea of beach holiday includes stuff then you may want to go then. It will be hot and there is less air con in EU than US.
No idea if Air Italia will still be there
Trains are very good and avoid use of cars close to the maniacs who live in the country. On time and reasonably cheap.
Venice it is possible to hire cheap rooms just back from St MArks sq at sensible prices if booked early
Why not try somewhere smaller as well. Siena for example and there is the whole lava covered thing in Naples

Hi
Wish I was young again! Here's a link to a huge range of accommodations in Italy. Just enter the city of your choice in the blank, or scroll through the list of destinations.

In Venice, there is the Lido, where you can find beaches. Haven't been there, but have heard people say they liked them.
Trains are good way to travel in Italy, with a range of fares. If time is not too important, then regional trains are the go, but they stop EVERYWHERE!
So, how long do you plan to stay in Italy? That will make a difference to what people recommend to you. Have fun. (Redundant .. you will have fun.)

Rome, Venice, Florence, and the beach in 8-10 days? Choose two or three locations at most. Every time you change locations, you'll lose at least half a day to travel, checking in and out, and such. Time for you to look at the destination guides above for Rome, Venice, and Florence, and decide what you really need to see.

With 8-10 days, sorry to say, you don't have enough time for Rome, Venice, Florence AND a beach! That would mean moving every-other day and waste a lot of time on train rides instead of seeing each place.
The best way to get around typically is by train.
I would definitely include Venice, but that's because I love that city myself.

Is there anything particular you are interested in seeing that is located in Rome, Florence, or Venice? What is it that made you pick Italy in the first place? You could make your decision based on that?
How important is getting to the beach? Certainly you can figure out a way to include this if it's important enought to dedicate a couple days to.
Since you are young (college students) I'm not sure why you'd say you'll never go to Italy again. Hopefully you will have many years of traveling in your future!

Hi Nine,
>Since this might be the only time we go to Italy where and what would you recommend us seeing?<
I am truly sorry to hear that the three of you are terminally ill, and will never be able to return to Italy.
It is so sad that you are dying so young.
Seriously, You will visit Italy, and the rest of Europe, a number of times over the next 50 years.
Italy is too large to "see it all" in only 8-10 days.
I suggest flying into Venice - 3 nights, train to Florence - 2 nights, train to Rome, fly home.
"Two of my friends and I want to...."
