1st time in London - Location wise, which would be the better for us?
We're visting London for the 1st time in november, we got (so far) good deals on two hostels: Generator Hostel London (37 Tavistock Place, Russell Square, Camden) and Wombats City Hostel London (7 Dock Street, Tower Hamlets). Location wise, which one is better? We are in our early 30's, would like to be near a station, in an area that has some life at night so we can have something to eat and drink at the end of the day and feel safe when walking back to the hostel...
Still looking for other options, but everything is way more expensive than those two...

The Generator is BY FAR the better, more central location.

Mostly for a reason.
The Generator is in a very good location -- but it is large and busy and pretty basic. However there are good public rooms/facilities.

I understand it is basic, but we got one of the private ensuite rooms (and this trip was decided in a whim - meaning we didn't have a lot of months to find good hotel deals, but we're still looking).
Is the Jesmond Dene (27 Argyle Street, Kings Cross St Pancras) in a good location?

Have you gone to the londontown.com website and checked on hotels? It used to have an interactive map that would pop up with properties in the various areas and their prices.
Plus, if you tell the board your nightly budget, you may get some insight . . .

Our budget would be £115 per night (we are spending 6 nights in London, 4 in Brussels and 5 in Paris, so spending £115/night is almost over the budget for us but we're willing to pay that if there's a huge difference in location/quality).
We got the private ensuite room at the Generator for £86/night.

Let's get real here: TELL US how much you paid or can afford to pay. Directing you to a bunch of hotel booking sites is not going to help UNLESS we have at least some idea of finances.
I felt the same way as those who have given you links but if you are not able/not willing to pay for a hotel then the whole exercise is pointless.

They did -- £115 per night.

Huh -- Of course that is helpful -- even IF we did not know the budget. The OP could look at the sites and would would immediately discover whether or not there are any properties in their budget.
thalitamd: Not knowing your exact dates -- I plugged in some random Nov. dates on LondonTown and found a LOT under £110 per night. Including several 3 star properties which are much nicer than the Generator.

I just posted how much I paid at Generator (£86) and how much I can spend (£115) per night.
I appreciate all the help (since I already cancelled Wombats based on the opinions given here) and I'm checking both laterooms and londontown right now (thanks for the recommending these).
My main doubts are usually about location/safe areas/easy access to public transportation...
Sorry for any inconvinience.

Ok, I've checked londontown, laterooms and some other places. So far I've found some nice deals on these:
- hub by Premier Inn London Westminster, St James's Park (15 Dacre Street, Westminster, London)
- Tune Hotel Kings Cross (324 Gray's Inn Road)
- The Belgrave, (80-86 Belgrave Road)
- Park International Hotel (117 - 129 Cromwell Road)
- Lancaster Gate Hotel (66-71 Lancaster Gate)
- Tune Hotel - Westminster (118 - 120 Westminster Bridge Road)
- Royal Cambridge Hotel (124-126 Sussex Gardens)
- Reem Hotel (50-51 Prince's Square)
- Hyde Park Boutique Hotel (Leinster Gardens, 47-48)
These two seems a little out of the way:
- Apex City Of London Hotel (1 Seething Lane)
- DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London - Chelsea (Imperial Road Imperial Wharf)
Reading a lot of reviews, I understand why you keep remembering me about some places being more basic than others, so I feel I should explain that not having a coffee/tea maker in the room (or having hot drinks avaiable late at night) or hangers in the room won't bother us at all. We don't have the habit to use any of those when in a hotel. Being more picky than my boyfriend, what I need is a clean room, with clean bathroom, a nice bed and heating/air-conditioner in a good location (also, a TV and wifi).
If anyone can comment about location or whatever you know about the first 9 in this list, it'd be great. I'm just really indecisively about this. So many options!

You won't need air-conditioning in November. Heat, maybe; air-con, no chance.
You can also look into flats that will total up at 650 quid for the six nights. London is rife with vacation flats and you'll be in a bit of an off-season too.

The Premier Inn at County Hall: directly across the river from Big Ben and Parliament. We stayed here, loved it. One block from Waterloo tube station and next to many bus lines. The inside is all newly redone (the building used to be the County headquarters, of course). Great full breakfast buffet, will keep you going til dinner practically. Check out comments on Tripadvisor.

15 Dacre Street is a fabulous location
324 Gray's Inn Road is an OK location
80-86 Belgrave Road is convenient
117 - 129 Cromwell Road is a little far west
66-71 Lancaster Gate is very near Hyde Park but otherwise not that convenient
118 - 120 Westminster Bridge Road is not a terribly convenient location and I would avoid.
I would avoid the last 3 in your list.
Of you whole list -- the Dacre Street Hub is the most central.
But just an FYI -- IF the Hub Covent Garden on St Martin's Lane has availability -- that would be the best of all.
